Basic Skills
These are skills that all Player Characters (depending on race and/or class) can use.
Detect Invisibility : A character must have a reason to attempt to detect invisible objects (Sounds, trip over something, etc.). A character makes a save vs. spell. If successful, invisible objects/enemies are detected and the character is allowed attacks at -4 penalty. All spells requiring a target to be seen will not function.
Cooking: A character can prepare stew, roasted meat, and bread.
Jumping: Requires at least 20 ft. of running room. A size M creature can jump 2d6 ft. If they choose to land Prone, add d3 ft. Size S creatures reduce distance jumped by 25%.
Riding: All characters may ride horses but may not be able to keep them calm or perform other tricks/actions. If a horse is spooked while bearing an untrained rider, the horse will flee at 1.5x movement for d4 rds. Horses spook 90%, Warhorses spook 10%. Untrained horses give rider -2 to all actions. Non-proficient riders get -2 to all actions and may not use missile weapons.
Singing: May only sing basic tunes and in choruses. Cannot read music etc.
Swimming: A character can stay afloat for a number of hours equal to their Constitution but must make a Constitution check each hour. Afterwards, a character must check every ½ hour with a -1 penalty their check, cumulative. Encumbrance reduces by 1/3, ½, or 2/3, respectively. The character may move 1 square each round.
Climbing: A character may attempt to climb surfaces like a thief. The surface cannot be considered a "difficult" surface to climb. The character has a base 40% chance, adjusted by their worn armor type and race as per thieves Climb Walls.
Native Language: A character can speak their native language and Cyric. A character can recognize other, "normal" languages verbally (75%), written (25%). This does not indicate they can understand or read it, simply that ther recognize what language it is.
