Firt Battle of Orkrishk Valley
Where brave men fall
The battle where humanity stood against the divines tides for the first time... Oh what a mistake it was.
The Conflict
Prelude
The Kingdom of Latrus was the first nation beset by the Divine Hordes... For many months villages, cities and towns were completely destroyed and burned, it's population transformed and adding to the horde. King Louis van Eric III had had enough of this and decided to stand in the narrow passages of Orkrishk Valley with a host of 4 thousand brave men, using the terrain to their advantage.
Deployment
The army of King Louis stood in the narrow entrance to the valley where the numbers of the enemy mattered little. With an organized shield wall they could have held against the hordes for months or even years. There are few detailed reports or documents from this battle, thus the formations of men are not known deeply.
Battlefield
The battlefield was a narrow, stony passage with few routes in or out. The exit of the passage was fairly close to the ancient capital of the Kingdom of Latrus, named Latruskee, meaning that the army of King Louis could have held for very long if it was only dependent on resources. Around the narrow passage set uncountable stiff cliffs and sharp stones, making flanking almost impossible due to the difficulty of climbing it. The side from where the horde came was a great plain, filled to the brim with green life.
Conditions
Initially, the conditions for the battle were great, with not much wind to speak of and few clouds. A few moments before the horde's attack the skies turned a deep grey as rain clouds formed extremely quickly and rain and thunder poured down on the soldiers.
The Engagement
At the start of the battle, the hordes sacrificed themselves with no second thought against the organized shield walls of King Louis' army. After several hours the men of the army were starting to get tired... at one of their many frontline swaps a massive spell was cast... roughly 800 men, including King Louis, simply exploded into a fine mist of blood and guts... The soldiers, now in utter chaos and with no central leader, took too long to understand what happened and the gaps created in the frontline were already expanded by the massive pressure put on by the horde. The lines crumbled as the soldiers fled for their lives... from the 4 thousand soldiers only 100 survived to tell the tale...
Outcome
The horde had a free passage to the rest of the Kingdom of Latrus and the rest of the continent as a whole.
Aftermath
The siege of Latruskee was only made possible because of the devastating defeat of the latruskian army. After the capital city fell, having no reinforcements to speak off, the entire kingdom followed shortly after, acting as a catalyst to the eventual union between the many human nations.
Historical Significance
The impact of this battle cannot be underestimated. Many history books, documents and reports cite this battle as one of the most important reasons for the union of the human nations.Legacy
King Louis van Eric III was written down in history, along with his men, as the first to be brave enough to stand against the horde.
In Literature
A great many books, songs, and sagas were created about this battle.
