A Woodwright is a skilled craftsperson, who works with wood to make items that any of the wood working "wrights" can, expect for Coopers, Shipwrights and Cartwrights. Woodwrights might be the only thing avabile and it might not even me viable to have any other wood ralated craft unless it is outside the remit of the Woodwright themselves. 

  • Arkwright - Maker of boxes and crates.
  • Millwright - Makes the wooden structure for mills
  • Ploughwright - Makes the Wooden part for a plough to be drawn by animals
  • Joiner - Maker or Furniture and joins wood.

Qualifications

The Woodwright must be qualified in all woodworking that they are expected to deal with.

Career Progression

When getting commissions this can lead to greater trade or more complex items commissioned. Often progression is by word of mouth and one can only progress by comissions or by making regualr items such as wooden tankard for Eateries

Purpose

Woodwrights are expected to make wooden items, they are skilled crafts persons hence the word wood before the suffix wright both saying wood. They are the ones who are making items that are complex such as wagon wheels.

Social Status

The Woodwrights are often a go to when it is not clear which trade to go to or if the other trades persons have a lot on their plate.

Materials

They work with maple as it the most widely used and is more widley grown than other wood. Trees grown for wood is only maple but other trees available for the purposes of food production, these woods tend to be more expensive, due to the lack of supply. When other types of wood is used it is only in commissions and can lead to the woodwright leading a more propserious life until the money dries up from the commission.
