Children of the Shattered Veil

Acolytes of the Demon Lords

The Children of the Shattered Veil is a fragmented yet fanatical collection of cults and sects devoted to the worship of the known demon lords. Though they share a core belief, these groups are often at odds with one another, with some even engaging in open conflict. Their motives and doctrines vary, but all revere the beings that dwell beyond reality.   According to their faith, demons originate from a realm known as the Veil, an eternal void adjacent to the material world. The Children believe that reality was once unified with the Veil but was violently shattered by an unknown event, severing the two realms. Some sects seek to undo this separation, claiming that true enlightenment—or oblivion—awaits in reunification. Others believe the divide is irreparable and instead venerate the denizens of the Veil as divine beings, offering worship, sacrifice, and service in exchange for power.   While the Children of the Shattered Veil remain a fringe religion, they have a greater presence on Alboric than on Midwin, as the lawlessness of the former allows their cults to operate with less resistance. Their influence manifests through acts of terror and subversion, as they sow discord and carry out the will of their demon lords, disrupting societies across the land.   A sworn enemy of the Children is The Church of the Devout Orders, particularly the militant Order of the Crimson Vow, which actively hunts and eradicates their acolytes. Some within the Church claim that demons are actually the Elderborn, a demigod race that betrayed the Divine Will by hoarding their power rather than bestowing it upon humanity, as was once promised.   Scholars from The Helioluna High Mage Academy have noted an intriguing theological parallel: both the Children of the Shattered Veil and the Church of the Devout Orders center their doctrines around the existence of multiple realms. Despite their opposition, their beliefs share an uncanny resemblance—one that raises questions about the origins of both faiths.
