Order of the Brackish Waters

The Order of the Brackish Waters is a guild of skilled trades as well as an esoteric order, who have significant presences along the coasts. They are dedicated to the production, regulation, and research of rock salt and saltwater. They are very mercantile in nature and operate a thassalcracy of city states where many goods are produced and exported.   Like other Benefactors, their order is dedicated to a higher power through which they derive their virtues - in the Order of Brackish Waters' case, their dedication is to the Sea Peoples, who are an ancestral warband responsible for the downfall of several early human empires.   Structure Executive Branch Grand Magista Templi The executive authority within the order, who are elected from the Fifth Class ranks by their peers. It is a lifetime appointment.   Regional Administration Adepta Major Composed of Fifth and sometimes Fourth Class job ranks, they lead the city state and guild within, accompanied with a council of advisors.   Adepta Minor Composed of initiated members with at least a Third Class rank, the Adeptus Minor are magicians who typically act in an advisory or executive role within a guild, queendom, or army.   Initiated Members Practica - The lowest and most common of the initiated member ranks. They are typically First or Second Class job ranks. They often have a front-facing or hands on career as a combatant, artisan, or scientist.   Non-Initiated Members   Philosopha The final pre-initiation stage for a member, typically limited to a First Class rank as blood binding is required for future jobs. They must complete their magnum opus and make all of their necessary spiritual tools in order to become initiated. They may act as mentors or seminar leaders to other pre-initiation members.     Theorica The middle pre-initiation rank, and typically the time when a focus is honed in on and plans for a magnum opus are fulfilled.   Zeolator The lowest rank composed of novices and beginning members.   Culture They are the most consumerist of the religious orders, and the most concerned with the psychology of desire (to own things). Taking heed from elaborate burials aeons old, they consider the act of posession a very powerful thing. They believe that both good and evil originate from the crafting of material wealth, with the Order putting itself on the favorable side of history when it can.   They operate as a meritocracy, which causes friction among other groups who place more importance on social class. Despite having an individualistic and competitive culture, the Order has a somewhat collectivist mindset when it comes to taking care of its members. They will always side with their members in an inter-organization dispute, even if they are in the wrong.   Though they have an alliance on paper, they often clash with the Chivalrous Order of Fire and Brimstone and the Holy Order of the Cross-vein Ore. This is primarily over resources, territory, cost of goods, and other economic factors.
