Ephemera

The Ephemera are a multicellular algae with advanced sentience, many of which have grown accustomed to and emulate human communities near the western fenlands.

They live in the polluted swamps and are largely helpful for cleansing the water, a crucial part of rebuilding the broken ecosystems. They have a reputation for attempting to marry humans and stealing newborn children.

Their life expectancy is approximately 30 years.
