Buckleford
A small market village, grown up around a ford in a tributary of the river Mersey . Roughly a days travel from Linmore on the road to Darbatun it makes a good trade in travellers staying at the inn, though its primary income is from renting stalls for the tuesday markets, and just from the farming of the citizens.
Sitting near the small river Buckle, the majority of the village sits on the south side of the river. A pair of forests sit to the south west and north. The ford is easily traversable, unlike the river for a few miles either way, where it is quite wide and swampy.
Demographics
Like most communities in Herulia, Buckleford is mostly human, with them comprising around 850 of the population. There is a largish gnomish population, around 80 living in some nearby hills, and a dozen elves. Perhaps another 2 dozen people of other races also live in the village.
At any one point there are likely 30 iterant travellers staying in the inn, and on Tuesdays there are typically at least 400 visitors buying or selling their wares.
Almost all the population are farmers, but many also are minor tradesmen or have other side professions.

Government
The village is the primary property of the Marquis Hareford, a minor lord of Herulia. This is his primary residence, and most valuable manor. The village and market are of course established with the permission of the Duke, but other than taxes and broad claims the duke has little power here.
The manor is managed by the steward of the marquis, who spends most of their time at this location, and is almost always present if the marquis is not. The current stewart is the marquis eldest son and likely heir, Baron Logan Hareford .
Day to day the village itself is mostly managed by reeve. While legal complaints will be passed on to the steward, the reeve will settle disputes, pay and hire workers, and represent the lord when the steward is otherwise occupied. The current reeve is Wirt Pulostu, a 41 year old man who isnt really working out and will likely be replaced next year.
As this is the primary residence of the marquis it is kept in good repair and well stocked.

Defences
There are 8 guards employed by the marquiss, and the village can retreat to the manor if they are threatened. The Manor is crenelated and made of stone, so is well suited to defend from minor attacks. In addition, if the marquis is in residence his retinue of 4 knights will be with him. The stewart has a retinue of a single knight, and is not an incapable warrior.
Otherwise, there are 34 conscripts that can be drawn from the population, and more from neighbouring hamlets.

Industry & Trade
The market, run every tuesday, sells most items a farmer could ever need, and some they would never need. This is the primary outlet for the produce of a couple dozen hamlets and thorps, and is also the largest place many would go to on a regular basis, so most market days it has at least 20 stalls open, selling primarily foodstuffs but also tools, animals, jewlery, clothing, simple magics, dozens of services and even books.
Purchasing a stall costs 1.6 sp per day, or 3 sp in a fair day. A seller may also just sell on the street for 6 cp.
Every 6 months, 6 days before the equinoxes, a fair is run over 3 days that brings in craftspeople, merchants, traders and others from the surrounding area, tripling the villiage for a while and allowing people the oppertunity to buy anything that would be difficult to find in the previous market days.
A large inn, capable of housing around 50 people in 17 rooms does good buisness, being regularily full on market and fair days, and half full other times. The main floor of the inn is a well liked pub, serving mostly home made drinks, but they also keep a small stock of wines. The inn is run by a small blooded half elf woman called Bremather and her wife Bria . A night costs 8 sp for a room, 4 sp for a bed or 1.6 sp for a spot . A meal costs 1-3 sp, and a drink is 6 cp.
The primary industry of the town however is agriculture. Most farm wheat and rye, but there are at least 5 major rabbit farmers in town.
