Imperial Legion
The Imperial Legion is the core of the Thirewyn Empire's military. Consisting of enlisted men and women usually of ages eighteen to twenty seven, the Legion can be found in all major cities, forts, patrols within a province, and wherever military presence is necessary. They will not be commonly found in smaller cities or towns, and even in bigger cities, they are a sub-force of that town's guard. However every officer of the Imperial Legion has jurisdiction to command and use his force as required by the laws of the empire, or to keep the peace. While a city's provincial force may handle the day to day operations of basic protection and jailing criminals, the Imperial Legion will take control of a region as necessary under the Empire's laws and Legion Code despite provincial governments, and will remain in control of the situation and any military based operations under a suto-martial law until the effect has worn off and the day to day reigns are handed back to the provincial governments, much like our own world.
The Imperial Legion is considered to be a honor based class in society, and any citizen who can pass the rigorous tests and regulations to even be enlisted into the military are considered to be some of the best and the brightest in the empire. While there are many sub-sections of the Legion, much like real world militaries, almost all of them wear the half plate armor (for ground forces, some may vary) that they are known for, crested with _______, making them distinguishable by basically anyone. While not every citizen, or even some regions in the world, will respect a soldier of the Legion with open arms and fresh bread, socially they are well respected within society and seen more as keepers of the peace and protectors than enforcers, which are usually delegated to a province's local forces. Imperial soldiers in general tend to be less hands on in day to day conflicts and are really only used intently to engage enemy forces deemed a threat to the empire and her territory, or hold ground like forts and bases. Some small town folks who spend their lives away from conflict or uprisings and rarely leave their rural area may never even see an Imperial soldier, let alone an officer.
