"Running as far as his stout legs could carry he ducked into an alley obscured in shadows from the overhanging roofs above. He counted: One, two, three - The clammering footsteps from before seemed like a distant memory in the busy market square. Perhaphs he had lost the guardsmen after all, as well as his chance at Locke's coinpurse. If he were to try again, he'd surely be spotted. No, he would need a new plan. Simply pickpocketing the purse would not do, not anymore. He considered the options as he cautiously reviewed his surroundings. A line of rope hanging overhead from a roof gave him an idea. If he could not get close enough to steal the coinpurse, perhaphs he needed a way to bring the coinpurse to him." - Abraham Isble, The Lightfoot of Westle
Halflings are known most commonly for being cheerful goodfellows who appreciate good food, good drink, and good company. Many halflings prefer a more humble lifestyle, partaking in sleeping in, eating well, and enjoying a good song and drink among their favored company in taverns and inns. Some enjoy the lifestyle enough to work at, or own, such establishments themselves. Halflings are commonly referred to as little rascals who don't mean any harm by their witty banter and retorts.
But despite their humble appearance and passtimes, some have found this to be an advantage and to rise above farmers and assistants. To become the perfect spies, thiefs, or even plotters. Halflings are characterized by some circles as petty thieves or lowlifes due to repeated schemes being uncovered. In all likelihood, there has always been a handful of 'bad sprouts' as the Halfling community calls them, possibly even dating as far back as their introduction to cultures. After all, what better disguise than a happy-go-lucky drinker who seems to only mind their own business amongst close friends?
Lifespan of a Halfling:
Halflings on average can live up to 200 years on the higher end, with some known to live longer. The typical lifespan of a Halfling more accurately is determined by their lifestyle and diet. Halflings that tend to indulge in life's wonders a bit too reguarly may only reach 100 years, while others who have a humble and laid back approach to life may live to be 225.
Halfling Cultural Traits:
Halflings do not tend to vary in traits and always seem to herald back to one of two traits: The humble farmer or worksmen taking each day to their fullest, or the cunning trickster looking to improve their standing in the world, openly or otherwise.
