Palancar Crisis

When the humans arrived in Alagaësia in 7203, they had sailed North and East from some unknown land, intending to colonise where Surda is now. However, gales buffeted them back out to sea and when King Palancar and the fleet of his entire nation found land again they were met by the inhospitable mountains of The Spine, blocking them from Alagaësia proper.
They forged on, searching for a safe passage through the mountain range. They established Kuasta where they landed and eventually discovered Teirm and the elves who lived there. The elves explained which land was theirs, which was the dwarves' and which was the dragons' and explained that there would be no quarrel if he and his people settled somewhere unoccupied.

They roamed far and wide, seeking a suitable place to live. They eventually settled in
Palancar Valley. There King Palancar, begin to build a mighty state.

In an attempt to expand his borders, King Palancar declared war against
The Älfakyn Kingdom, though they had offered no provocation. Three times King Palancar attacked and three times the elves proved themselves to be far superior to the human military. The elven strength frightened Palancar's aristocrats and they pleaded with their liege for peace, but he ignored their counsel. Then the lords of Palancar approached the elves with a treaty, which they signed without his knowledge. With the help of the elves and The Dragon Riders, the lords usurped and banished the demented Palancar to his valley. He was eventually murdered by a son who refused to wait for him to die.

The elves gifted their abandoned city of Ilirea to the rest of humanity as they had no need of it when they treated with the dragons. It has been the capital for the Broddering Kingdom to this day.

The Conflict

Outcome

King Palancar was banished to his castle by his Lords. The Riders constructed Edoc'sil to ensure the former King Palancar never rose to power again.

Aftermath

It was this conflict that convinced the Head Rider, Anurin, to allow humans to become Riders in order to prevent similar disputes. This led to an incident between Anurin and Dellanir Dröttning in which the Riders were banished from Du Weldenvarden, becoming an independent entity in their city of Dorú Areaba on Vroengard.
