Winter's Weal (win-terz weel)

17th of Aurilandur- Winter's Weal or Ice Day is the feast day of the goddess Auril. It is a celebration of thanks for the renewal of winter and its end. To appease the goddess of winter for relenting, celebrations are held outdoors. Celebrants often wear scant clothing or none at all to show the goddess of cold that the cold is accepted and welcomed into their communities. Celebrations include the dousing of fires and clearing of logs, ashes and soot from hearths which are "sacrificed" by being chopped into pieces and covered with water. This is also simulated by children who make log like pastries which are cut up, covered in syrup, and consumed. Other festival activities include dancing, singing, consumption of cold foods and frozen beverages. Normally this is the last time of year ice is readily available without magical assistance.
