Angus Twilight

Angus Twilight was born in Tabatha's Bay Navati, He thinks. He could never be sure because he was a child when his parents were killed in front of him by a Shadow Demon. The creature was after Angus, saying: "you may go if you Give me that snack" but his parents did not back down when the creature attacked they shielded their child with their own bodies giving their life for him. Luckily before the Shadow demon could consume Angus two Paladins of Bahomut arrived. and with their holy light they were able to burn the Shadow Demon out of their plane. Angus was too young to know if he had any other family let alone where they would be, so the pair of Paladins began a search to find where this young lost child belonged. For Months the two traveled with Angus to find someone who knew the boy; villages, towns, cities, camps, even traveling caravans... but no one knew him or recognized the description of his parents. The Paladins, Luna and Brel, decided that After all the time they had spent with the boy it was only right that they raise him as their own. Their daughter, Tabatha, had drown in the bay that now carries her name a few years earlier so they felt it was a blessing from the gods that they would get another chance. When their daughter died Luna and Brel had lost their lust for adventuring instead resolving that protecting those at home was the most important thing, so they became a type of civil watch for Tabatha's Bay. They were also depended on to be the arbiters of justice for the town. They taught Angus everything they knew about fighting and divinity. They worshiped Bahomut but wanted him to find a path to a diety on his own. Angus showed great promise as a paladin, Luna and Brel were sure it wouldn't be long before the gods began to seek him out.He would regularly go on patrol with his adoptive parents and Occasionally he would even go out by himself. On one such occasion as he made his way down the high street he saw what looked like a child dart into an ally being chased by a Dretch. Having fought a terror dog before with his parents he was sure he could handle the creature with little trouble. He followed after the girl and found her corned in the ally by the Dretch. He pulled his sword and prepared to attack. But before he could the little girl began to laugh a hissing guttural laugh, and said "finally I will have my Snack" the girl grew several feet into a monstrous creature with grey skin, horns, Wings and seemed made of smoke. It was the Shadow Demon that had killed his parents, He quickly engaged and defeated the Dretch so he could put all his effort into the creature who had destroyed his life. Without the blessings of a divine patron Angus struggled only His will kept him standing but the creature was at least as strong as he. They fought for hours up and down the streets of Tabitha's Bay. Ever time Angus would think he was gaining an advantage the creature would make a move to harm an innocent in the street forcing Angus to protect the citizen rather than delivering the killing blow. As Angus began to feel exhaustion taking him he knew his time was limited and should he fall all of Tabitha's Bay would be in danger. The creature had to be stopped no matter what, He opened his stance and prepared a high cross slash leaving his torso and side open to the creatures claws. The demon reached out with its thin fingers tipped in razor sharp talons and grasped Angus around the waist sinking its nightmare inducing needles into the flesh between the overlapping plates of his leather armor. Angus screamed but not in pain in victory because in taking this attack of opportunity the Shadow Demon had exposed its entire top half to the now spear like sword above Angus' head. He drove the sword down through the clavicle all the way into the guts of the creature. The shadow Demon screamed stared into Angus' eyes and seemed to try to tug his soul from his body then it stoped and vanished, with it's earthly form destroyed it would need to return to the abyss. Angus collapsed into the street prepared for his death. As he lie there dying he could hear his heart slowing, and a warmth came over him. He felt his body lift up and wind rushed over him as if he were flying at great speed. His eyes did not want to open but after a considerable effort he got one open and he saw the blur of a giant wing that reflected silver into his eye and then darkness. When he finally awoke again it was a week later. Luna and Brel were by his side anticipating his version of the story as the towns people had spread the tale from their points of view. Angus was too modest to brag of his deeds even something as monumental as banishing a Fiend singlehandedly while still a teenager but he told the story as plainly as if telling them about a rock in the road. They were very proud of him but seemed sad too, their worry was apparent, He asked if they regretted teaching him their ways. Brel said: "No, it is just that you are our son. we did not bare you but you are our son none the less. we already lost our daughter and seeing you injured like that was very hard on us. losing a loved one creates a hole inside you that never can be closed. you try to put other things in it; duty faith, passion, drink but it never fills up. We placed you on a path that might lead to us losing you and though we are so proud of your deeds we still fear that loss coming again. But lets not talk of Misery lets talk of victory, we think it's time you had a proper set of armor" To celebrate his victory they had a beautiful set of Chainmail custom built for him with their family crest emblazoned on it so that he would always know that even in the absence of blood he was their son. As Angus entered adulthood he spent hours meditating on what god he would partner with, but nothing, no divine insight, no pull toward a pantheon it was as if the gods didn't know he existed or he was blocked from their vision. So he continued as he had, patrolling and protecting. until one night as he slept he was graced by a dream. A vision of a woman in flowing silver robes with skin that seemed made of light itself spoke to him. "Would you take my mantle into battle and defend the causes of my faithful". Angus was charmed by her and pledged his sword to her service. He was flooded with strength and rage and a zeal, But the peace his adoptive parents had told him about was missing the feeling of joy at finding that perfect connection hadn't come over him. Instead he just wanted to bring righteousness, painfully. And he did, for the next year he would crush those in the path of his nameless god. He was the hand of brutal justice. Luna and Brel were worried his actions seemed not just out of character for a paladin but also out of character for who he'd been before pairing with this diety. One day he was particularly agitated so they followed him. They watched as he beat down a half-giant simply sitting in a field outside of town eating a pumpkin. They had to stop his blade as it whistled through the air to take off the poor creatures head. Angus screamed at them that thieving was a sin, and death comes to sinners. Now they knew something was wrong so they fought him down and were able to divine that he wasn't in service to a god. the Shadow Demon had somehow in the final moments of their battle bound itself to his soul and for years had been building its strength within him while also cutting him off from any and all gods. The two of them purged the Demon from Angus. and after together all three of them traveled to the Abyss to face their nemesis. Unfortunately inside the abyss the demon had greater strength and power, in the battle Angus was bespelled into thinking Brel was The fiend and he delivered a mortal blow to his father. Feeling that hole his father had spoke of so many years earlier form in his chest Angus threw all his rage into it and his vengeance and his strength. Together he and Luna destroyed the Shadow Demon once and for all and barely escaped the abyss having to abandon the body of Brel there. But when they returned the damage had been done, Angus had lost confidence in his abilities and feared that should a god come to him he would not be able to trust them or himself. and so it was for the next 15 years Angus stayed in Tabatha's Bay taking over as guardian and arbiter from Luna.In honor of Brel. Over time he came to forgive himself but he still harbored doubt about what he'd do if a god ever wanted to call on him. He enjoyed his life but felt he could be doing more for the world. Brel's town was safe but would it be better to take Brel's legacy in to the world. Over the years Tabitha's Bay seemed to need him less and less. but Luna needed him more as her age was catching up to her. He spent most of his time with her helping around the house and tending to her needs. She hated that and told him: "I hate this, you have a grander purpose than codling a useless old woman" He disagreed but he did feel a sense of purposelessness settling in. Angus Contemplated his doubt and found that he still feared trusting but it wasn't the gods he feared trusting it was himself. One day An old man carrying a staff shaped like a T where perched 7 canaries came: I seek Luna the cleric of Bahomut. when she saw him her eyes widened and she smiled with recognition, she hugged the man and ushered him inside while asking Angus to wait outside, oddly telling him not to be sad. The two spoke in private for a very long time and when the old man emerged Angus did not see his mother. Angus asked where she had gone and the old man said that she had gone out another way to begin a new adventure" Before leaving the man walked with Angus outside and spoke to him: "You have doubt and fear, it is obvious to all who would look to you but you also have bravery and honor. no one thing makes a perfect paladin. They know you remain resistant, they know you have doubt. so rather than coming to you they wait for you to come to them. This town is not the world and it is too small for anyone who would be the hand of a god. go into the world, use what Brel and Luna Gave to you see what the gods have given to us. and when you are ready call the one who is in your heart. They would be foolish not to respond" Angus turned away to contemplate the words and as he did he saw a silver flash over his shoulder when he spun back around the man was gone but he swore he saw a giant wing dart out of view over the trees. He knew what to do, he would take his skills into the world. A journey of discovery and adventure, of faith and devotion, he would grow or he would fall and either way he would meet his god. He traveled to navati's biggest harbor City, Seaborn and decided he would take the first ship he saw to whatever destination it was going and allow Fate to play out as it willed. That first ship was the Flying Dutchment on route to Thawl-Anon in Initia…
