Aurix Coast (ˈɔːɹɪks kˈo͡ʊst)

The Aurix Coast is the region on the coast southwest of the Spine of the World, by which it is separated from the rest of the continent except for the Rothan Gorge. Politically, the term is also used for the confederation of city-states that unites the coast and the Heiceon Islands under the Golden Concordat. It is a region that thrives on trade and commerce, which has inspired a multi-cultural society that controls most trade for the landlocked Darethian Empire, as most (if not all) external commerce flows through its ports.

Geography

Heiceon Islands

 Main article: Heiceon Islands
An archipelago southwest of the coast of Akhiilor, the Heiceon Islands are mostly controlled by the Golden Concordat from the Aurix Coast. Several exceptions to this exist:
  • Marchion's Isle: headquarters of the Peregrinates
  • Drumcest: desolate volcano island to the south

Prasinus Jungle

  → Main article: Prasinus Jungle
The Prasinus Jungle is a massive forest stretching from the southern Spine of the World to the sea at Shrul-Ven to the area near the Ruins of Kor'Kal, coming close enough to Vala Vincix that its fields and dwellings border it.

Coastal Settlements

  • Vala Vincix: The largest and most important port city on the Aurix Coast, it is a major hub of trade between the continents, not only serving Akhiilor.
  • Darauth: A port city south of Vala Vincix.
  • Shrul-Ven: A port city to the southeast of Vala Vincix, Shrul-Ven is famous for its high-quality lumber, which it logs from the Prasinus Jungle.
  • Alwyr: The wine city.
  • Miadh: Smallest of the still-prominent cities on the Aurix Coast, Miadh is constructed in the Miadh Moor, a wetland noted for its varied plant life.
  • Talaos: One of the two Elven cities on the continent, together with the northern Gwareth.
  • Zundahl: The southernmost city on the coast, Zundahl mainly preoccupies itself with the trade with the dwarves across the Strait of Stars.
  • Grejas: A mostly-agricultural city north of Vala Vincix, of which it was formerly a rival.
  • Zarents: A city famed for its fisheries and other seafood, it features an expansive shipbuilding industry, which it puts to use for the Concordat.
  • Gwareth: The elves of Gwareth originated on another continent long ago.
  • Yos-Ra: A port city about half the size of Vala Vincix under the control of the Golden Concordat. It sits at the mouth of the Isil, and features a prominent woodworking industry, using the wood that drifts downriver from Rothan. It also features fighting pits and other arenas, using imported beasts.
  • Port Rith: Second of the two unofficial 'capitals' of the Golden Concordat, the isolated city of Port Rith is famed for its metalworking industry, making use of the many mines around it in the Silverscale Spurs.

Climate

Due to its location on the side of the Spine of the World, the Aurix Coast features a warm, humid, and tropical environment, with humid weather year-round and a wet season at the start of summer. The plant life is vibrant and lives freely, spreading in jungles and great flowers.

Fauna & Flora

The Aurix Coast plays host to a great variety of plants, from palm trees to mantraps to great purple and yellow flowers. It holds all the plants one can find in a jungle, from grand trees to vines and a variety of mosses. All this works together to create a humid, warm environment, inspiring a great variety of creatures and further plant life. A particular example of livestock raised along the Aurix Coast is the Morian Grey: a breed of sheep originating in Port Mor which was imported to the Aurix Coast and has since become a relatively common culinary item.

Like the plants, the fauna inhabiting the Aurix Coast is varied and beautiful. From songbirds to birds of paradise to great varieties of fish and other oceanic creatures, to monstrosities such as the Kamadan or Displacer Beast, the fauna is as varied as can possibly be in this environment and flourishes with it.

History

Before the Aurix Coast was settled by its current inhabitants, it hosted several notable civilisations. The Aurix Coast itself was the fief of the Dragonborn civilisations that descended from the mountains and founded several prominent cities such as Vala Vincix and Yos-Ra until they were eventually displaced by the human cultures that came from the south from the other continents.

The Heiceon Islands, however, held a different culture. The Auri'an were a seafaring people who worshipped the great leviathan lord Kor'tua, and lived on the islands before journeying to the mainland and living as the forebears of the Golden Concordat as it is today.
