Session 9: A Search for More Info Report

General Summary

On the fourth morning, as Leosin recovers from his ordeal, he informs the party that he is headed north to Elturel to rendezvous with Ontharr Frume, a paladin of Torm, who is also concerned about the recent rise in the Cult of the Dragon's activities. He asks the party if they'd be willing to gather more intel from the raiders' camp - who their next target is, what they're storing in the cave, why the Cult is so active now, etc. They know the raiders' camp now, and they are the only ones who can do this. They accept, and he tells them to meet him in Elturel when they're done.
The party heads out to the raiders' camp, only to find it deserted. The kobolds' tents have been burned to the ground; the camp is still half-set, indicating that the raiders left in a great hurry (given that it's only been a day). The party discovers a couple of archers, who turn out to be hunters completely unconcerned with the guarding of the camp. The hunters explain that they were being paid to hunt and bring back food (which they were cooking), and to take the food to the cave, but otherwise they don't know where the raiders went or why they left in such a hurry.
The party heads into the cave and is ambushed by a couple of dragonclaws, which they dispatch. As they proceed deeper into the cave, they discover a patch of mushrooms, including some deadly (and grumpy) violet mushrooms, which Nutmeg warns the party to steer clear of. They successfully circumvent the mushrooms, then find an area filled with bats, who are disturbed by their presence and swarm. Among the bats are a number of stirges, who suck blood from the party members before being crushed.
The party also discovers a meat locker (where much of the meat is beginning to spoil), and a trash dump (the stench of which is awful), and move on to the next area... which appears to have kobolds.
