Skrzyzowanie

Overview

Skrzyzowanie is a smaller town-wiezek in the intersection of the River Dawn, as well as a smaller keep which stands atop a small hill at the eastern end of the settlement. The keep was founded roughly four hundread years ago, funded by an adventurer's party, from the distant lands of Chrysos, who sought to excavate the ruins of Dawn's Seat, and planned to use Skrzyzowanie as their base of operations. In the end, this party would be killed deep in the ruins of Dawn's Seat, and the keep would pass to one of their children. Since then, the family, now known as house Skrzyzowanie, has lived a modest and humble life.   However, in the late 13th century AR the Union of Mytogradian Traders Without Borders, or just U.M.T, set it's ambitious eyes on the settlement. In 1283 AR they finalized an agreement with the head of house Skrzyzowanie, Baroness Alexia, which would let them build a proper harbour and use it for their ships. Since then, the wiezek has grown a lot. As of 1283 AR the population would have been around a hundread or so, but as of 1306 AR the population has risen to roughly 450 people. Most of these people are from Mytograd, or the surrounding areas, and have migrated here in search of work.   However, with the growth, the U.M.T's influence has also been growing. The town is, in many ways, under the rule of the U.M.T rather then that of the Baroness Alexia. While Alexia maintains a small group of guards, and two knights, they mostly spend their time in her keep. Instead, the town is patrolled by U.M.T peacekeepers, or in other words, mercenaries. Taxes are still collected by the Baroness, but anyone working with the U.M.T is more or less exempt.   Geographically the settlement is in some ways alone. It's the closest settlement, of it's size, to Dawn's Seat, as much of the local area is deserted or to dangerous for locals to traverse. This has helped the town avoid exterior conflicts, but it has also meant that trade has been limited, especially since the house Skrzyzowanie has been reluctant to invite traders freely, that was up until Baroness Alexia.

Demographics

Most folk in the town are human, and work for the U.M.T. Out of the 450 people in the town, roughly 300 work for the U.M.T, with about 50 of those being mercenary peacekeepers. These peacekeepers are also used in case of conflict, whether that be with pirates, or otherwise. Out of the other 250, roughly 150 work in the docks, whether that be with ship maintance, as sailors on hand for the ships docked, or as labourers. Specifically, 80 of the 150 are sailors, who are on hand in case they are needed. The other 100 mostly work on the U.M.T owned farms outside of town, with a few of them also being blacksmiths, who work in the U.M.T foundry. Out of those that don't work for the U.M.T, roughly 90 of them are working members of the settlement, and the rest are primarily children, the elderly, or stay-at-home parents. Nearly all these children and elderly are from the non-immigrant families, meaning that they have roots in the settlement before the influx of workers. Out of the 90, maybe 60 or so work in the fields, and the rest work with normal trades.

Government

Skrzyzowanie is ruled by two forces, the U.M.T, and Baroness Alexia of house Skrzyzowanie. In truth though, there is little challange from the baroness, as the U.M.T are without a doubt the one's in charge of the settlement. They have more soldiers, more people loyal to them, and more wealth behind them. Beyond that, Alexia, the baroness, has put up little resistance to U.M.T influence, having been the one to let them into Skrzyzowanie to begin with. She has gained much wealth and luxury from their friendship, as they have been able to use Skrzyzowanie for their recent expansions along the River Dawn.   This has culminated in a settlement which is mostly ruled by officials of the U.M.T, with a select part of the population excluded from that rule, and still part of a traditional feadual system.   U.M.T
In the eyes of the U.M.T Skrzyzowanie is part of the River Dawn U.I.R, which means it falls under the administration, primarily, of their U.C.O representative, that being the ambitious Konrad Zientek. Konrad however spends most of his time either in Blodkowodnic, or more commonly in Mytograd. In his younger years, when he served as the CTR (the Chief of The Relations), he was very active along The River Dawn, and he is credited with bringing Blodkowodnic into the fold.   However, as Konrad is rarely in Skrzyzowanie, the work is left to The Chief of Regional Management, or CRM, which in this case falls to Hildegard. Hildegard's family is from the Valley of The Tall, but she has grown up in Mytograd. When she got older, it became clear she was good with money, and eventually by hard work she was promoted to the position of CRM by Konrad, who she had worked with for years before that.   Now, Hildegard is the one in Charge of Skzryzowanie in most ways. She deals with day-to-day issues and difficulties. She also keeps track of business in Blodkowodnic, where she used to work from, but with the activity in Wysepka, Skrzyzowanie is poised to become a perfect base for her work. She has hopes of one day inheriting the position of representative for the River Dawn on U.C.O, when Konrad steps down that is.   Beyond Hildegard there are a few other important figures who are in charge of the U.M.T members in Skrzyzowanie.   Foundry Keeper Vorpip Flickerbelt
Foundry Keeper Vorpip Flickerbelt is a rock-gnome who has been put in charge of the U.M.T Foundry in Skrzyzowanie. He is young and shy, and in many respects not a great leader of people. He does however have an outstanding eye for quality, he knows exactly when the steel is right, and when something needs to be hammered more. As such, he is a good pick for the one in charge of the U.M.T Foundry.   Vorpip was recruited along with his band of makers in Blodkowodnic by Konrad. Vorpip works with a group of 5 Kopalnian dwarves (hill), and they all originate from Freehold Zobrask. They left Zobrask in search for great wealth, as Vorpip wanted to try out his, rarely successfull, armour techniques. Though he is good at telling when something is done right, he is very bad at making things himself.   Captain Helena Zientek
Captain Helena Zientek is the niece of Konrad Zientek, and she has largely been appointed for her blood-ties. She is not a poor captain, but also not the most talented one. In Skrzyzowanie she is charge of the war-galley stationed here. She has some combat experience from the few battles with pirates that she has had, but otherwise she is mostly green. She is also the defacto commander of the mercenaries stationed in Skrzyzowanie, mostly because she has the highest ranking title outside of regional titles.   The mercenaries don't dislike her, but they are very aware of her status as a green commander. They still don't dare offend her, so they rarely offer any advice, not wanting to risk her, or her uncles, wrath. Helena on the other hand is also aware of her skills, or rather, lack thereof. She wishes that the soldiers would come fourth with advice, for though she doesn't want to seem week, she also doesn't want to make misstakes and upset her uncle.    Quartermaster Piotrek
Quartermaster Piotrek is in charge of keeping stock of equipment and goods in Skrzyzowanie. He is also the resident trader when outsiders wish to trade. He can trade in bulk, or in smaller more specific goods. He has access to most goods you might expect in a trade settlement like this.   Piotrek is a humble older man. He has served the U.M.T all his life, and has no family of his own, he has devoted his soul to Mytograd, and more specifically to the U.M.T. He is kind, as long as you are a decent person to him, and he is happy to meet anyone hailing from Mytograd. Most people in the docks appreciate him, and like him a lot.

Industry & Trade

Farming
Skrzyzowanie has mostly been a fishing settlement for most of it's existence. However, in it's current day, there is nearly no fishing going on. Those who were fishers before are now employed at the docks by the U.M.T, and those who are not have as such been forced into the fields outside the settlement. These farms primarily grow vegetables, something the U.M.T needs for their shipping routes in order to avoid scurvy. A large part of the farms outside are also owned by the U.M.T, which employs roughly 90 or so people, and the other farms employ about 60 people or so.   The docks
There's the docks, where a lot of work takes place. Roughly 1-2 times a week a U.M.T sailing ship arrives in town, and then the ship must be repaired and cared for. Not to speak of all the offloading and loading to be done. For example, a part of the iron brought from Katrach is offloaded here for the U.M.T foundry. Furthermore there are also two ships docked in Skrzyzowanie at most times. There is always one warship, unless it is out on duty, and there is a full crew of 40 skilled sailors on hand, ready to sail. Beyond the warship, there is also a sailing ship with a crew ready to leave at a moments notice.   U.M.T Foundry
In the northern part of the town is a fairly large workshop, or foundry. It's commonly referred to as the U.M.T Foundry, a fitting name seeing as it is owned and operated by the U.M.T. The workshop is primarily used for making weapons and ship parts. The reason the weapons are manufactured in Skrzyzowanie is because the U.M.T is not allowed to manufacture or trade in weapons in Mytograd, that being one of the few areas they are not allowed to operate in. However, them manufacturing weapons outside of Mytograd is an open secret within Mytogradian high-society.
