The Valkan Isles

The Valkan Isles are a newly formed country of nordic human, leaving their dying homeland to the east. The people are hardy and strong, raiding and claiming land that had once belonged to others. They largely reside in the once ruined lands that had belonged to aasimars, The Fallen Kingdom of Endara, but have claimed the smaller isles in the area as well, finding little resistance to their might. They have followed the lead of the many others that have come from The Cursed Isles, landing in The Continent so that their people can survive, with them being a very contained society, doing little in the way of trade, making everything they need within their own borders.    Although not quite being described as warmongers, the Valkans are instead seen as battle hungry, waiting for an enemy to attack them so that they have an excuse to test their might in battle. This was the case with The Martéan Empire during their time in The Cursed Isles, back when it was called The Twin Isles, as they sought to conquer the Valkans, only to be pushed back dramatically by them, eventually forcing them to leave that continent, only to be followed a couple of centuries later.

Culture

The Valkans are known for being a godless people, believing that they do not need the might of a higher power, especially since The Divine Exodus and the departure of the gods. They believe in their own might, and the might of those before them, worshipping their ancestors instead. They believe that, once they die in battle, able to hide their fallen souls from the gaze of The Harbingers of the Raven Queen, allowing their ancestors can take them to the fabled Halls of Vuldrunn. Their entire culture is based around this, hence why they are so battle hungry.

Assets

Valkans do not have the technology of other countries, nor do they utilise magic, seeing it as a gift from the gods. They simply have one thing, their own might, producing one of, if not the most, deadly warriors in the world. The berserkers of Valka are such a threat that they are the only force the soldiers of The Martéan Empire truly fear. These warriors have no fear of death. In fact, they crave it, making them some of the most imposing figures on the battle field, which even the goliaths of Pruva want to steer clear of.

History

Not many have attempted to learn much of Valka's history, meaning that very little of it is public knowledge. What is known is the more recent history, and how they came to The Continent. The current king of the Isles, Vanar Sondell, united the jarls of old Valka, during their time in the Cursed Isles, granting him the title of The Great Unifier. Realising that the land they called their home was dying, he took the Valkans west, taking the islands of the now fallen Kingdom of Endara.
