Serpent's Bay Storm Organs

Carved into the cliffed coast of Serpent's Bay facing out to sea, the massive storm organs provide both visual and audible landmarks for sailors approaching the bay. The organs were initially created as a warning device for impending storms after residents of Phada discovered the howling heard during storms was coming from caves in the cliff face. By modifying and carving new openings, masons and quarrymen were able to increase the sensitivity of the hollows so that the tones would begin as the winds began to pick up around the point and carry down the bay to alert the populace. Over the next century, artisans continued to refine and augment the design of the storm organs based on wind speeds and direction as they grew more familiar with the weather patterns in the region. Current residents of Phada and other settlements around the bay can predict the strength and direction of the wind and how long before a storm arrives based entirely on the music of the organs.
