Quatheran Gate

Among the ruins of the fallen city of Quathera stands a thirty-foot tall arch fitted with reinforced wooden doors. The gate was commissioned by Imperator Phyrre to serve as the sole passage into the city. The stone masons toiled for three years chiseling the arch from a single block of deepstone and polishing the surface to a black, mirror shine. Once raised into the place, the frame was fitted with a pair of foot thick, titanwood doors banded in tungsten. The craftsmen swore that once closed the gate would be impenetrable.   For three decades, Quathera stood as a symbol of the Imperator's strength and dominance. In 167 AoR, an army from Kol Garum descended upon the city. The first assault upon the gate proved fruitless and the defenders taunted the besieging troops from atop the walls. After months of failed attempts, General Fraith ordered the construction of trebuchets and deployed a cohort of goblin sappers to undermine the walls. The final attack on Quathera began at dawn of the 13th day of Wheln, 167 AoR and by nightfall the city was razed; its inhabitants fleeing as the walls crumbled and flames engulfed buildings. By the next morning all that remained was the gate, still locked and unyielding.   While marred by time and the battle that consumed the city, the gate remains.
