Targe

A medium round shield made of wood measuring 21 to 25 inches across. Made of thin wooden layers laid over each other with the grain of each layer at 90 degrees offset to the layer below, and fixed with wooden pegs, or iron spikes to create an early form of plywood. The front was covered by rawhide leather, or canvas with a small round brass boss in the center. Two leather straps (enarme) were typically used to strap across the forearm.
