Barbute
Barbute (also Barbuta which originates from the Italian word for bearded, as the wearers face and beard would be visible) was a style of closed face, visorless helm with a distinctive 'T' or 'Y' opening. Designed to give more protection to the face than the pot helm, or Bascinet, and simpler to craft than the Sallet.
The Barbute resembles earlier Bronze age Greek, or Corinthian helms, and made have been influenced by artifacts, as well as renewed interest from that period in works of fiction.
A pointed ridge going front to back was common, the intended effect was to deflect downward bladed strikes.
