Lord Malrec Vaelthorn
Massive and regal, Malrec Vaelthorn is a mountain of ivory and velvet. His thick, elephantine frame is cloaked in richly embroidered robes threaded with molten gold, bearing symbols of forgotten deities and infernal patrons. His tusks are capped with sapphire and obsidian, and he wears a headdress of hanging chains that glitter like starlight. His eyes gleam with infernal wisdom, deep and ancient, and his deep voice echoes like distant thunder. A faint scent of burning incense and brimstone follows him wherever he walks.
Malrec is a gambler, philosopher, and predator. He delights in the intricacies of fate and the thrill of a well-played risk. Though courteous and even charming, there is always a tension behind his words — the sense that you’re always a move behind in a game you didn’t know you were playing. His cruelty is calculated, never wasted; he sees souls and lives as currency, and believes true power lies in the debts others owe you. Vaelthorn is deeply spiritual in his own twisted way, speaking often of "balance" and "destiny," even as he bends both to his will.
One of the most feared figures in Cressari, Vaelthorn commands not only wealth and territory but also esoteric influence. He plays a large role in the House of Dying Stars, which is a nexus of magical gambling and infernal deals.
