Tore Ladon

The Tore Ladon - also known as the Tower of Ladon or the Dragon's Needle - is the broken ruin of a great spire that once stood on the highest and most central peak of the Isle of Ladon. As such, it was the epicentre of The Cataclysm of Ladon. It now stands on the Crown of Corona, the high hill at the centre of the World.   There has been much debate in both academic and theological circles as to the purpose of the Needle, but it is most commonly considered to have served as a symbolic, and possibly a practical connection between the World and The Firmament. According to Dragonborn legend, the tower was raised by the Primordials as a sign of Ladon's divine favour. That it was broken in the Cataclysm they attribute to the fall of the Gods, not the loss of favour by the dragonborn.   Elven legend is vague on the subject, as are accounts by the Orcs, but both differ greatly from the dragonborn story in what details they do offer. They hint of a tower raised by the dragonborn themselves in an act of hubris which either called down the ruin of the Cataclysm, or at least drew its first devastation with its sheer audacity.   Three storeys of the Tore Ladon remain on the Crown, stripped by the elements but largely intact. Below this, however, lie layers of cellar as yet uncounted, occupied by Draconic Abominations and other monsters, as well as rather isolationist tribes of Kobolds and a number of dragonborn cults devoted to Lacaga, the god of undeath.   The Crown falls into the jurisdiction of the ash elf Benefice Zeranzeri, whose policy towards the occupants of the lower. levels of the Tore is one of containment. Not even the Kindled {Ash Elves} have plumbed the depths of the catacombs, and many of its residents have had centuries to dig in. The Tore, the Crown and Corona are administered by High Sept Hidrekazai. One of the clients of Hidrekazai is small Sept Sepulknazu. This sept's very specific sziszerai is the administration of the catacombs, including training in tunnel fighting, subterranean navigation and Kobold diplomacy.
