Rogue and Captive Celestials
Rogue Celestials are those who are caught on Aiaos as a result of an accident of some kind, causing them to lose the ability to return to The Firmament to be unnamed. This is usually a result of massive, but non-terminal damage or an attack on the celestial's mind and memory. This causes the celestial to be trapped on the material plane, where their nominate begins to fade. It is possible for a celestial to enter this state when a mortal or group of mortals assign a persona to them with sufficient conviction, a particular risk when a celestial's appearance coincides with a local prophecy.
Most rogues simply go on until they fade into nothing, their nominate dwindled into silence, but the process can be arrested by the granting of an epinym. In such cases, the assignment of this name and identity often comes from kindness, even a place of love, but since few rogues retain enough awareness of their true nature to give meaningful consent, there is still an element of coersion. Moreover, if the celestial is losing their memory when the name is granted, it is entirely possible for them to be assigned a persona quite unprepared to wield celestial powers.
Much worse is the scenario in which a mortal or group of mortals is able, by Magic or trickery, to capture a celestial and keep them hidden while they undermine the celestial's roommate and bind them, mystically, with an epinym designed to enslave them. Such epinyms are often etched into collars, yokes or bracers, and trap the celestial in an unquestioningly obedient identity.
Because other celestials, and Gods, recognise creatures, and especially other celestials, by their name, rogue and captive celestials are, effectively, invisible to their own kind. This leaves them trapped, unless someone can discover and restore their nominate, and possibly bound in servitude. Even stripping a captive's physical shackles can not remove the binding power of the name.
