Nome of the Boundary Mists

While the very north-western eaves of the Forest of Ancient Shadows just touch on the outer extent of the Elysian Boundary, in truth only two nomes can claim a substantial border with the Elemental Plane of Earth. One is the Nome of the Waving Blades in the Grass Sea, which is practically an extension of the borderland into the material plane. The other is the Nome of the Boundary Mists, ancestral home not to Genasi of any stripe, but to one of the most ancient Humans civilisations on Aiaos .   Since the first years after the Cataclysm of Ladon, this domain of roiling fogs have been home to the Mistborn, an insular and secretive culture that grew into a state known as the Kingdom of Mists. Largely unknown even to their close neighbours for millennia, the Kingdom announced its existence by sending a group of rangers to join the guerilla resistance against the Regime and the Legions. This group impressed with their valour and skill, but their odd palour and aloofness was offputting for many. After the founding of the Concordance, the Kingdom resisted diplomatic overtures until the Nome of the Ancient Shadows joined the Elysian Federation in CY22.1. As the Kingdom's only allies, the Duchy of Ancient Shadows served as a liaison to bring the Kingdom into the alliance by CY22.9.   The Kingdom is not a hereditary monarchy. Instead, a council formed from the elders of the various families and tribes of the region, known as the Ring of Mists, is responsible for governance. The nine most senior groups - as decided by the Ring - are permitted to appoint a speaker to represent the views of the group and their allies, while all members of the Ring are able to vote on all issues. They appoint committees of their own members and external experts to tackle whatever issues arise, each committee bringing the results of their deliberations back to the Ring for verification and execution.   Every seven years, the Ring selects a very particular committee. This body of seven are known as the Kingmakers, and act both as Federal Electors, and to choose from the population a King to lead and represet the nome for the next seven years.
