Kavala is the coldest province of the Republic, shaded from the auroral sun by the distant peaks of the Northern Giantlands and cooled by the icy waters of the inland sea of Aino.

History

Once the domain of the ageless bard Yainu, Kavala sits on the southern shore of the inland sea, Aino. Once a part of a joint northern kingdom spanning that sea - the shining shore to Porhovala's frozen shore - the Poet-King’s feud with his former partner Loahi led to one of the great rivalries of the Mage Sovereigns, and yet Yainu bled and died to prevent the Union reaching the shore of the Inland Sea with enough strength to assault Porhovala.

Social/Political

The Church has a strong influence in Kavala, due to its proximity to the last of the Mage Sovereignties, but it is still a stronghold of the Bardic Colleges. It has powerful Guilds, and draws most of its wealth and importance from the teeming waters of the impossibly deep inland sea, Aino. As well as fish, the sands of the shores of the Inland Sea are rich in gold and thick with salt pans.
