Celestial Consors
Consors are Celestials dispatched to Aiaos to act as the faithful companions of great heroes and champions of the Gods. They may be sent directly by a god or greater celestial, or they may be summoned using Divine Magic. In the latter case, most celestial summons weave a mononym, instead of forcing a desmonym, creating a comfortable identity in which the celestial may, if needed, persist for years.
The most common forms of consor are the steed, the hunter and the familiar.
A steed can take the form of any animal that can be ridden, whether or not it is a creature that usually would be. They are almost always especially majestic, although a few champions may have a steed of exceptional ability and intelligence, but entirely humble appearance. Once called by such Magic, a celestial will remain with a hero, through death and sometimes beyond. It is also possible for a consor to 'evolve' if invested with stronger magic or otherwise given a more powerful name and form.
Hunters usually take the form of a medium-sized animal to act as a companion and hunting partner. Canine and feline forms are common. As with all consors, with a few almost exaggeratedly modest exceptions, hunters are especially large and fine examples of the form that they take. Hunters are also often given the power of speech, which is rare in steeds.
Familiars are small and easily overlooked creatures - although, again, when noticed they are exceptional specimens - that can perch on their hero's shoulder or follow someone unnoticed. If their hero is a magician, they act as a conduit for that magic. They rarely speak, but often have some degree of telepathy.
All consors are fiercely loyal to their hero: They are ride or die companions, or indeed ride and die, since like all celestials they can always be renamed, unless they are slain in The Firmament.
