Ancient
The Ancients are primordial entities, born from energy-rich stars that, instead of imploding, gave birth to life and consciousness. For eons, these creatures inhabited the Void before any other form of existence was conceived. Initially, they lacked personality or purpose, drifting through the Void without direction. Over time, however, they developed individual characteristics and became aware of their own being and the existence of others, laying the foundations for a nascent society.
In those early days, the Ancients were lost, unable to define a purpose without guidance. The Void, with its boundless expanses and enigmatic energies, offered little in the way of direction. However, the most gifted among them took the initiative, beginning to intuit the laws of the Void and to shape it using their immense reserves of power. They attempted to create Planes to host their creations, but their efforts were often marred by the distorted and chaotic nature of their fledgling understanding, rendering their creations fruitless and unstable.
The Ancients' society eventually diverged into two distinct paths. A group of them, seeking refuge inside the Veil, separated and would later become known as the Prime Stars. These Prime Stars adopted a different philosophy, focusing on the creation of harmonious Planes and life forms. Those who remained in the Void continued to evolve, their struggles and failures gradually giving rise to the Tyrants—Ancients who chose to learn from the Prime Stars how to create Planes and various forms of life. These Tyrants adopted philosophies different from their own kin, striving to harness the Void's energies with greater precision and control.
Despite this divergence, even the less powerful Ancients are seen as cosmic entities of immense power by mortal creatures, capable of wielding the vast powers of the Void. The Tyrants, having mastered the arts of creation and dominion, established themselves as rulers over vast regions of the Void, subjugating other Ancients and forming mighty empires.
However, not all Ancients submitted to the Tyrants' rule. Some refused to bow down, preferring instead to retreat into isolated corners of the Void. These independent Ancients, often misunderstood or branded as renegades, sought to create their own planets and societies. Unlike their more malevolent brethren, these Ancients gradually came to understand the actions of the Prime Stars or chose simply to live in solitude, away from the rest of their kind.
These solitary Ancients, driven by a desire for peace or understanding, have over time cultivated a unique perspective on the universe. Their isolated havens often become centers of learning and reflection, where they continue to explore the mysteries of the Void and experiment with creation in their own, more harmonious ways. Though fewer in number, their contributions to the cosmic tapestry are invaluable, offering a counterbalance to the ambitions of the Tyrants.
In essence, the Ancients embody the raw, untamed potential of the universe. Their journey from purposeless beings to powerful entities reflects the broader struggle within the Void—a struggle between chaos and order, between domination and harmony. As the saga of the Void unfolds, the legacy of the Ancients remains a testament to the boundless possibilities of existence and the enduring quest for understanding and purpose.
