Orion LeSalle

Lieutenant Orion LeSalle

Orion LeSalle is a Lieutenant in The Inquisitorial Order. He oversees the work of four teams of Inquisitors, providing them with assignments as well as collecting their reports and assisting with any internal issues they might have. He served as an Inquisitor for ten years until an injury left him incapable of the travel and combat that might be required for the job. He still consults on cases in the city, assisting other teams as well as the city guard, when the opportunity arises.   Orion tried to address each of the teams he oversees with professionalism, but he also views himself as a source of support for the Inquisitors. As such, he does his best to build rapport and open up to the team in the hopes that they will also open up to him. He knows the strain and pressure of being out, basically on your own, in the field - he knows how isolating the job can be and knows that the most important thing to an Inquisitor is their team, so he keeps a close eye to ensure the team dynamics are going well.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Though biologically female, Orion identifies as a man and dresses in men's fashion to minimize the femininity of his body. He tends to carry himself in a more masculine manner as well, sitting with his legs spread or throwing back his shoulders when he walks. He is subtle in his demeanor, rarely making large movements or speaking loudly, and it would be easy to overlook him in a room, an asset when investigating crimes - less so now that he is a bureaucrat.

Personal history

Orion was born Orialla LeSalle to her parents, Michelle and Archer LeSalle, who lived and worked as farmers just outside of Yahven. He and his three sisters worked in the fields with their parents, and while he was young, he was just like the other little girls. As he got older however, he began to realize he wasn't like his sisters. In addition to his gender identity struggles, which put distance between him and his parents, he never felt like the farmer life suited him. So when his older sister got married and moved into Yahven , Orialla moved with her.   The move provided Orialla with a new start - he took the name Orion and began apprenticing with an alchemist in town. For the next four years, Orion worked in the alchemist's shop, learning the trade, and while he enjoyed the work, it was not really fulfilling for him. One night, some thieves broke into the store and stole some potions. This was Orion's first introduction to law enforcement. A minor crime, the city guards came almost as a formality to take statement and do a cursory look around. Orion, however, was not about to let it go. He insisted on investigating on his own, even hunting down the black market to find the potions and trace them back to the thief. Through luck and determination, after three weeks of searching, he found the thief and delivered him to the guards.   News of this reached the The Inquisitorial Order, who scouted Orion to recruit him. Almost wholly uneducated, Orion lacked many of the skills required of the Inquisitors, but he had natural talent and drive and one of the Lieutenants saw promise in him. He paid for Orion to attend the Royal Academy for two years to learn reading, mathematics, and some basic sciences. Then, when Orion was eighteen, he joined the Inquisitorial Academy.   After graduation, Orion spent the next ten years working as an Inquisitor. Working in the small, tight-knit group, traveling all across Kaisu, Orion finally felt like he had found a place he belonged. The work was gratifying and he came to consider his team to be his family. Once again, his life changed drastically. They had cornered a serial killer in an alley, but he wasn't going to go back without a fight. During the fight, Orion took a near-fatal blow defending his teammate from an attack. Though he recovered, eventually, he was left without full use of his left shoulder and blind in his left eye. In honor of his sacrifice, he was made a Lieutenant, and he settled back down in Yahven.   Back in Yahven, Orion has built a life for himself from the ground up, once again. He has come to excel at his job and has become a valued Lieutenant of the Order. He met a ballerina - and elf named Razielle - and became quite close. Two years later, they were married and have lived happily together ever since. She is often seen coming to walk home with him after work, and he attends every one of her performances. Both dedicated to their work, they have no plans for children imminently but plan to adopt later on in life.

Education

Orion has a sparse education, considering his position as an Inquisitor. Most of his learning has been done on the job. He picked up bits and pieces from every investigation: alchemy, anatomy, even arcana.

Morality & Philosophy

Orion is the kind of person that puts themselves wholeheartedly into everything they do. He forms attachments quickly and then will go to great lengths for the people he considers friends. This has been his guiding light through life it is in his relationships that he finds fulfillment.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Since leaving active duty and settling in Yavhen, Orion is has two great loves. The first is his obligation to promote the wellbeing of the Inquisitor teams he oversees. He sees it as his duty as being more than the team's supervisor - he sees himself as their confidant, advisor, and tie to the outside world. The second is his relationship with his wife. He will routinely reschedule meetings to attend her performances, and it is not uncommon for him to take an extra-long lunch break to go into town and eat with her.

Virtues & Personality perks

Orion has a strong sense of self that lends itself to confidence in the face of misunderstanding. He is a steadfast friend and possesses a unique dedication to see a job through to the end, once he's begun something.

Vices & Personality flaws

Orion has a hard time being assertive and is not much of a disciplinarian, which hinders him in his role as a supervisor. He also abhors paperwork and often is asked to re-write his reports to the High Inquisitor because he rushes through them and leaves out details.
