Corrine Massoud

Councilor Corrine Massoud

Corrine Massoud is one of the members of The Council of Kaisu. She was elected based on her work as an alchemist - predominantly a potion she developed that could cure a plague that had been running through the streets of Yahven, about six years ago. She is often a voice of compassion in The Council, arguing for more welfare and support for the disenfranchised, even at the cost of the upper and middle class.

Personal history

Corrine was born in Yahven. Her mother died in childbirth and her father was a professor, so growing up, she spent all of her time at the Royal Academy, playing in the halls and listening in on lectures, as she got older. Per her father's wishes, she joined the academy herself, at thirteen. He wanted her to follow in his footsteps as a historian, but she had little care for long-dead heroes or ancient treatises. Instead, she pursued the natural sciences, botany, zoology, and geology. She spent months on excursions and study-trips in the wilderness, and it was here that she found a love of herbalism. Throughout the next several years, she refined her interest into the study of Alchemy. With no natural magic of her own, it took countless hours of study and focus to craft potions. It became her obsession, and everything else - friends, family, hobbies - all fell to the wayside.   When a plague infected the streets of Yahven, Corrine turned her singular focus to finding a cure. She risked contracting the disease herself to go out among the people to study the disease and test potential cures on those willing to chance it. It was here that she truly got in touch with the laymen of Kaisu. She came to see that not everyone lived in the golden light of academia. For all Kaisu's talk of equality and elevating the masses, there were still orphans on the streets, farmers that couldn't read or write, and laborers who died form illnesses that could easily be cured. She became outraged at the inequality of it. Eventually she developed a successful cure for the plague. She was celebrated as a hero was the first every nominee for Councilor put forth by people from outside the Academy. She was elected that very year and has been a member of The Council since.

Education

Growing up the Royal Academy of Arts and Science, Corrine was educated on every topic every field of science and humanities. While she specialized in Alchemy, she received a broad education, including knowledge of the arts.
