Ifrit, The Infernian Character in Agoria | World Anvil

Ifrit, The Infernian

Efreet, The Infernal, Lord of Flames, Fire Djinn, God of Fire

Ifrit is the god of Fire, Heat, War, and Volcanoes. Whilst Ifrit certainly has a more violent or aggressive demeanour which leads some to interpret him as an evil deity, Ifrit, much like the other prime elemental deities, is actually a neutral deity. His motivation comes not from a desire to destroy for the sake of chaos or greed in itself, but to ensure that all things remain in balance. Thus, when worlds have grown too peaceful or stagnant, Ifrit might encourage others to war to ensure, in his mind, that proper evolution or progress is still possible.   Shown as a huge hulking humanoid, Ifrit takes on many forms that show him to be similar to that of a Demon, with large horns, elongated arms and fangs. Able to change his form like many other gods, Ifrit has been both man and beast in his visits to sentient kind, often showing an intimidating display of power and ferocity.   His temples are adorned with features that demonstrate reverence to his fiery being and personality. It is most common to have an ever-burning brazier in the centre of a holy site devoted to Ifrit. However, many temples take this further, having large underground complexes which burrow much deeper into the earth to uncover pits of lava. Some of the more fanatical worshippers of Ifrit might also offer sacrifices (live or otherwise) in the pits of lava to quell the rage of Ifrit, although this is notably a practice that is forbidden by the Aetheric Orthodoxy.
