The Beast Character in Agora | World Anvil

The Beast

A god of predators, hunters and territory. The Beast is entity that is more respected than devoted to. Its presence indicates the necessary preservation of the land, beasts and plants in the area.

Offerings

The Beast offers creatures from the forests, mountains and hill ranges for mortals to hunt, and expects the same exchange to be made by the people. The Beast often initiates these exchanges when a town is low on food, and those who receive accept without realizing the debt they had placed on themselves. In these instances, the Beast will send animals to ravage and torment the town, until it is satisfied that the debt is paid in livestock.   Some worshipers of the beast are more proactive and directly seek the Beast aid in finding quarry, either for sustenance or the glory of killing a powerful creature. The Beast guides these hunters towards the entity they seek and even participates in the event. However once the game is over, The Beast decides who gets what shares of the fallen prey. The priests must honor its demands and rewarded with fulfilling nutrition when they do so. However, those who are greedy find themselves closer to malnourishment than when the hunt began or, if disrespectful to a grand degree and take the entire carcass for themselves, The Beast will send a creature of great power to slaughter the transgressor.   This is forewarned in the folktale; The Deer in the Desert.

The Thrill of the Hunt

The Beast operates altruistically towards those who hunger, but only to those who earn their cut. Clergymen that dedicate themselves to The Beast must be trained in the tracking, trapping, and slayer of grand fauna. The Beast is also the one who decides how much one has earn of the spoils, it typically demands the lion's portion and leaves the scraps. However, its champions boast the right to request any piece they wish.

Holy Books & Codes

Farmers offer up their largest livestock animal to The Beast, by leaving the beast unprotected and close to the nearest wilds. The Beast then ensure that no predator comes near the redt of the livestock until the next winter approaches.   Hunters whisper to The Beast, asking permission to encroach on the wilds and aid in any hunts the entity seeks to chase. The hunter know that permission is received in the form of swift visions that depict their permitted game.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

There are no defined symbols to The Beast. Followers typically have tattoos or war paint depicting fangs, claws and goat eyes to show their loyalty. Official symbology is granted by The Beast itself. Hunters are marked by conflict with a beast. The mark is filled with divine power, dependent on The Beast's respect and trust in the marked one.   The higher priests of The Beast are typically topless with a large scar that remains permanently reddened.

Tenets of Faith

The Beast embodies the thrill of the hunt and acception of one's borders. Those who worship The Beast know that to hunt outside your lands is a show of disrespect. To be offered the chance to aid in a hunt is the greatest honour one can recieve.
