It is a time of progress and discovery. In subterranean laboratories and lofty archives, the colossal wheels of innovation rumble inexorably forward, shedding light on long-hidden secrets with the twin torches of science and magic. Hordes of cartographers, explorers, and archivists seek fame and fortune by shining a torch on the dark corners of the map and unearthing new wonders for the marvel of society and debate of scholars.   It is a generation of revolution and war. Lines on the map are drawn and redrawn in blood as armies clash over territory, resources, and ideas. Diplomatic efforts to keep the peace buckle under the weight of grievances old and new, and colonial projects strain to keep up with demand for raw materials and strategic footholds. Politicians, rulers, and the wealthy bicker over their portion of the spoils in never-ending debate, ignorant to the plight of their people living in crushing poverty or oppression. Out of necessity, resistance movements and firebrands crop up by the hundreds, their flames quickly stamped out only to be rekindled elsewhere.   It is an epoch of hysteria and fear. The specter of all-out war is everywhere, stories of border skirmishes casting a pall on once-lively taverns and town halls in the countryside. Whispers of degenerate warlocks and forgotten supernatural terrors often end in a frenzied, panicked mob or worse, a witch-hunter’s execution pyre. Even in the shining capitals of Thordur and Adidiela, rumors of cultists and spies cause decent folk to close their shutters at dusk and shy away from strangers. From across the Dividing Sea, tales from returning merchants and explorers of dark gods and ravening spirits send a cold shiver through the populace as priests and magistrates urge calm.   It is an age when the old ways unravel and the world is made anew. But it is also your time. Will it be a time of hope and valiance—or madness and despair?
