Village of Brashov

Brashov
Tall shapes loom out of the dense fog that surrounds everything. The muddy ground underfoot gives way to slick, wet cobblestones. The tall shapes become recognizable as village dwellings. The windows of each house stare out from pools of blackness. In the distance, a great castle looms over the village, like a lance piercing the sky.
Located in the lowlands of the Dibril Valley, Brashov is a village that has clearly seen better days. The houses are rundown and many are boarded up or abandoned. Nearly all the shops in the village are permanently closed, and the unoccupied shops have been looted of anything valuable. Claw marks cover most of the walls.

Background

Though never a prosperous village, at least not in recent memory, Brashov's grain and livestock production was once a vital part of the food economy of the valley.   That all came to an end about a year ago, when a strange man came to the village claiming to be a powerful wizard. This wizard rallied the villagers to rise up against Countess Ravna van Roeyen and led a rebellion to Castle Roeyen. By all accounts, the assault was a disaster. The wizard was defeated, leaving the villagers to be slaughtered by Ravna's minions.   Some returned home, but they were never the same. A strange illness beset them and those around them, causing them to waste away and die, only to rise again as the horrible undead. The crops also began to fail, the livestock sickened and died, and the village slowly fell apart, leaving the rotted out husk that remains.
