The Maw

A secret, mobile, island-like fortress, the Maw always arrives on the the 57th of Oppos (Turmit). It never seems to appear in the same place twice, and it's very existence is questioned, as no one who has ever entered it leaves. When the Maw appears, man-eating monsters from around the continent flock to it, as if pulled by some insatiable force.

Purpose / Function

The Maw's purpose is unknown, but when it appears, monsters that eat humanoid flesh flock to it. Many children mysteriously begin to go missing around this time, and it is speculated that the Maw somehow whisks them away to be fed to its monstrous guests.

History

Written details of a similar aquatic building date back all the way to year -150 on the Eliatrope calendar, but many speculate that the Maw has existed longer then that. Many believe that it has some sort of connection to the mysterious Abyss that dwells at Sarusan's center, or the Great Tomb of Nazirek, as those who enter those places also never return.
