Quick Lee

Quick Lee is a first generation Hong Kong Chinese immigrant to New Vancouver. Both of his parents were superpowered  democracy activist in Hong Kong, China as Hong Kong’s SAR status expired 2047. There were no re-education camps, nor were there secret police arrest that were made on activists. His parents were simply economically persecuted, tracked down and harassed by China’s social merit system. As it become more and more difficult to make living in Hong Kong, Quick parents applied for refugee status in Canada and immigrated, with his father running the family over on his back as a super with true bio speedster powers with his mother providing rest stops with telekinetic power bubbles when Quick was 5 years old.
Quick manifested his powers early on. He showed minor telekinetic powers, mostly manifested as force fields when he was 3 years old and did not exhibit any traits of his speedster father. As he grew older, though his telekinetic powers seemed to go away, they in fact were growing stronger and began to internalize. One day when he was playing in Queen Elizabeth park with his family and his family friends and their children, all of them starting teasing him about him about being normal. They pointed and laughed at him. Even his sister joined in and pointed and laughed as she floated inches off of the ground and levitated sand in front of her spelling “SLOW LEE”. As Quick looked over at his parents to protect him with tears in his eyes, all he saw were both of them looking away in shame; shame that their son was normal, and inadequate. All he could hear was all of them chanting, “SLOW LEE! SLOW LEE! SLOW LEE!”
Quick closed his eyes and covered his ears and tried to drown it all out. He felt all of it sinking down inside him, crushing him until his mind finally found a truth inside him which was to live for who he was and accept what his was. As the truth came, a wave of calm, clear serenity washed away all doubt, pain, suffering, and want from his spirit. His mind’s eye filled with warm light and in a moment of pure clarity, a path had opened inside him. A memory of him holding onto his father’s neck and his father cradling him behind his back as they ran across the open Pacific Ocean to Canada, just the sun peaked over the clear ocean’s horizon spilled into Quick’s mind as moment of supreme happiness, peace and unconditional love. From that a vessel for his powers had been created. Speed was the expression of that moment of love. All of it started to channel into one razor sharp focus. Speed. Speed. SPEED.
Quick at 8 years old manifested his true power for the first time. Through years of training and mediation, it has become easier and easier to enter into that state and in that state Quick in even faster than his father as his is unlimited by the limitation of his physiology. 
Despite not being a true bio speedster, Quick has a keen interest in physiology. His father developed knee problems 5 years ago. Many years ago when his father ran them across the Pacific, he had to control his speed so that they won’t go too fast and get injured by the speed. They all had stay within the threshold of their mother’s telekinetic force field. The control took its toll on Quick’s father and resulted in chronic pain in his father’s knees and lower back. Despite being an average student, Quick made it his passion to study medicine and orthopedic surgery and rehabilitative medicine for the superpowered. Though it takes him longer to understand material, his superhuman focus and his speed allows him to excel in looking up information that he has forgotten, to consult with experts around the world and build in person relationships with them, and to focus on the practical skills of surgery.
Even as a student with slightly above average grades due to his diligent studying, he was able to apply for UBC medical school and was accepted due to his superhuman talents, his hero license extracurriculars and his superhuman intuition and bedside manner. Quick is currently in his third year in medical school with a BA in Human Kinetics. He still helps out with delivery orders for the family business. His family owns a chain of bubble tea cafes around the city with Quick’s sister, who inherited her mother’s telepathic and telekinetic powers, running the day to day. They have one of the best sandwiches in the city. With his sister agreeing to becoming the successor the family business, Quick is free to follow his passion to be surgeon and to perhaps cure his father of his chronic pain.
Growing up with his intuition, he believes in the value of little kindnesses, and seemingly insignificant good deeds and how they have the potential to change even the worst people for the better. As a licensed hero, he believes in fighting for the everyday people and does not find a need to wear a mask or a costume to hide his identity. He is proud of who his is and his family is more than capable of protecting themselves with their own superpowers and their vast network of immigrants that they have help over the years from hiring them in their cafes, or offering them financial assistance in the Chinese Canadian community. However, Quick always has his heroes license on him at all times, and strives to do everything by the book to not jeopardize his standing as a medical student at UBC.
