Drop of Ecstasy Item in Age of Gray | World Anvil

Drop of Ecstasy

For many years now, Drop of Ecstasy has been considered the alcohol of elites. Even though most of the Witches don't experience effects it has on other people, many of them like its taste, and the Witch of Wealth considers it her favorite drink.

Pinch of Blue

The process of creating the Drop of Ecstasy is identical to that of the champagne for the most part.
The grapes are squeezed into juice, fermented, blended and bottled. Then, before the second fermentation starts, the mix of yeast, sugar and a pinch of Blue Pigment is added to the bottle. The wine is put through the second fermentation. After that it undergoes aging, riddling, disgorging. The dosage and another pinch of Blue Pigment are added, and finally, the Drop of Ecstasy is corked.

Bottle and the liquid inside

Just looking at the bottle of the Drop of Ecstasy, one can easily tell it's a work of art. Floral patterns cut into it surrounding the label that was painted by hand give it an elegant and stylish look. It has a slight brown tint. The cork of the original Drop of Ecstasy is always blue.   The liquid itself is yellowish in color and almost completely transparent. Shaking it causes bubbles to rise, but also reveals the added Blue Pigment, which forms patterns similar to those of the drop of paint added to the liquid. After a few seconds of stillness, it returns to its base color.
It has a sweet taste that leaves a tingling feeling on the tongue, long after tasting it.

Blue Pigment

The thing that makes Drop of Ecstasy stand out the most among other alcohols is the Blue Pigment added to it and its properties. It is one of the times when the negative state of the Color is used on purpose. For Blue, the Color of sight, its negative state is that of illusion. It turns the alcohol into a hallucinogen. The exact hue of the Pigment is controlled during the production to ensure that the hallucinogenic high will be a very pleasant experience for the consumer.   The amount of the Pigment used is safe for the body, and unless one would consume several bottles of the Drop of Ecstasy every day for over a month, it shouldn't cause any side effects. Under normal circumstances, bodies of all of the sapient races are able to get rid of or assimilate the amounts of Blue consumed.

The trip

The visions reported vary from one person to another, however, there are some effects that show up more than others.
A few minutes after drinking the Drop of Ecstasy, the body starts to feel like its sinking into the ground/chair/bed. This is what stops most of the people from moving when tripping. Not long after that, they start to perceive patterns around them (even texture of the wall) turning into images of both the things that they have seen in their life and completely surreal ones.
Another few minutes pass and all of the senses seem to get enhanced. Drinkers note that they can hear the conversations from far away (however, in 50% of cases, those conversations are completely made up in their minds), everything they touch sends pleasant chills through their body, the smells mix together, creating something they've never felt before. Then, they start to lucid dreaming.
Depending on the dose taken, most of the effects last up to an hour per glass drunk and begin to slowly subside. They completely end after about 4 hours.

Culture of drinking the Drop of Ecstasy

Both to ensure the safety of the drinker and to make the classy drink even classier, there are rituals that most people follow when partaking in some Drop of Ecstasy.
  1. Sitting in a comfortable chair or on the bed.
  2. Never drinking alone. Most of the people don't get mobile when tripping, however, it is still advised to have a friend or a servant that looks over the one drinking.
  3. Mixing the drink in the glass and smelling it.
  4. Touching the drink with lips before tasting it.
  5. Pouring another glass of the drink before the hallucinations begin. Many do so to make it easier for themselves to prolong the trip. Once they feel the effects start to subside, they don't have to play around with the bottle and the glass and don't have to ask anyone for help before taking another dose.

This... should be illegal.

I am really liking the idea of adding magic colors to a drink to change its properties :D   Are there other types of food that have Pigments added to them? Also, what would be the results of adding let's say Red, Yellow, or Green Pigments to the wine?

As of right now, I only have a short article about it, but Witches (thanks to their immunity to Oversaturation), tend to experiment with food and Pigments, some even using them to control the people.
Witches' cuisine   As of examples of using other Pigments in food:
Red (Color of safety and danger) could give danger sense, heal, or make someone uncontrollably aggressive.
Green (voice and silence) could enhance someone's voice (good for speeches and concerts) or take away their voice (which I think would be a great way to make a threat to someone who speaks too much).
For Yellow (stability and negation), I can only come up with using it to stabilize wounds and slow the progress of sickness right now.
