The River Kingdoms
Southwest of Brevoy - beyond the marches of the Genbon Uplands and the Rostland Plains, the Sellen river divides as it leaves Lake Kallas and its branches go sprawling through a vast wilderness heavily forested and dotted with outposts. These are the River Kingdoms, a region containing an ever fluctuating collection of independent towns and city states. It is a haven for outlaws, brigands, and exiles. It is a place where anyone can make of themselves what grit and determination will allow.
The River Kingdoms are home to only a few more-or-less permanent towns, with the city-states of Daggermark, Pitax, and Mivon being the larges and most stable. No centralized government exists, but the geography of the region makes it extremely hard for any outside force to impose unity through conquest. Even the Conqueror never made more than tentative forays into the River Kingdoms. Other legends suggest that the instability of the region is more than just geography, that there is something supernatural that works against permanent settlement of the region. Whatever the cause, and frustrating as it has been to kings and entrepreneurs alike, the instability of the River Kingdoms has made it a have for those with no where else to go.
