Languges of the Region

Nearly all species of the world have their own native tongue kept in tradition. These have regional dialects like anything else and for our purposes speaking Elvish means you speak the dialect of the elves of northeastern Avistan. Speaking to an elf from Garund might require a communication roll to be understood. In addition, some terminology below to make some of the languages seem more real.
  • Common = Taldane; The Taldan empire once spread from the inner sea to the southern parts of Avistan and Rostland was settled by Taldan settlers. It remains the trade language of the region.Similar in sound to Spanish, Italian, or other Romance languages in our world.
  • Orcish = Hallit; The language of most of the native peoples of northern Avistan. It has hard to trace the origin of Hallit to a specific group of humanoids. Hallit primarily used a runic script until adopting the Taldane script in the last few hundred years. Similar to the Nordic languages of our world.
  • Draconic - one of the oldest recorded languages. Draconic is, as the name implies, the tongue spoken most commonly by dragons. Dragonborn maintain the language among themselves, though the most often speak the trade language of whatever land they are dwelling, reserving Draconic for ceremony and official documents. Draconic is also widely considered the finest language for cursing.
  • Sylvan - the language of the Fey, often used in magical encantations.
