Electromagnetic Shielding

The EMS system is based on the model of the earth's magnetic field. It generates an electromagnetic field around the spacecraft that protects the crew from cosmic radiation. The system is more effective than the LHRS, but requires quite large amounts of energy, which is why the installation is only useful on larger ships with sufficiently powerful generators.

Access & Availability

The EMS is well known and freely available, but requires more powerful generators on board to operate.
