Plot points/Scenes

Governor's Manor - Uxena

Wanting to get there quickly but also in style, Gregor attempts to shield bash the banister and drop dramatically, shield glowing and be the last sight the guards and governor see. Unfortunately, (and by unfortunate I mean Nat 1) Gregor bashes then banister and falls flat on his face and lets go of the shield. However his recovery is pretty good (17) so is at least up on his feet facing the now 2 guards that have stopped and turned to deal with him.   Pockston attempts to follow suit and also critically fails but recovers (also 17) and pops up bow drawn… but facing the wrong way.   J decides against a repeat fall and instead lobs a flash grenade under the walkway towards the guards. One of the guards and Gregor end up being blinded and the guard drops his sword. Pockston, signaled by the flash grenade, turns and fires an arrow at the guard who can see.   He takes the hit, but rushes forward and scoops up Gregor’s shield. Sensing his holy symbol nearby, Gregor makes a mad rush out and manages to hit the guard and ram him into the wall, forcing him to drop the shield. J turns from the corner on the upper level and finds a weakness in the guard’s armor and fires an arrow dealing a sharp blow.   The first guard is still scrambling for his weapon and is blinded. Pockston picks up the shield and prepares to hand it to Gregor. The guard attempts to attack Gregor but is deflected by his plate armor. Gregor takes out his battle axe, throws it on the ground, takes the shield, attempts a shield bash (Nat 1), and instead throws the shield back on the ground to the confusion of the guard and the dismay of Pockston. “What did I do? What does someone have to do to find some favor around here?”   J again fires another arrow and drops the guard beside Pockston and Gregor. At this point the first guard has recovered his sight and picked up his weapon and moves to attack Gregor but is foiled by the plate armor, Pockston again picks up the shield and hands it to Gregor, and gets an attack off on the guard. J drops from the upper floor and draws his bow. He takes a few steps back, the guard misses him on an attack of opportunity, and J ends him with a well placed arrow to the throat.   Gregor regains his vision, picks up and hands the battle axe to Pockston as a reward for his “faithfulness” and aid. Pockston is in awe, but recovers as the 3 run down the hall after the guards and governor. When they come upon an entryway with large, double, oak doors, J tries the door and finds it unlocked but doesn't open it. Gregor attempts a dramatic shield bash on the doors but it kinda only breaks the door mechanism and they slowly open up, revealing a large chamber with pillars on either side and a large platform, almost throne like, in the rear.   Inside the room, the governor is cowering behind the makeshift throne and a full battalion of guards with crossbows aimed at the door stands ready. Pockston attempts a “Last chance. Surrender or Die.” speech then pushes Gregor forward. Gregor, technically unarmed, strides into the center of the room as all the guards follow him with their crossbows.   Gregor: “This ends here. You and me. No one else gets hurt.” and he attempts to compel the governor into a duel. However, Mirkwood has a bit more will than they gave him credit for.   Mirkwood: “You’re mad! Why on earth would I do that?”   Gregor: “Then surrender.” and attempts to command him, which also fails to sway the governor.   Mirkwood: “Bah! The nerve! You’re not even armed. What could you do to stop me?”   Seeing Gregor’s negotiations going south, J positions himself and draws his bow. When the moment presents itself, he fires and arrow directly into Mirkwood’s chest.   Mirkwood: “Ah! Kill them! Kill them all!”   J: “Surrender or it will be much worse for you!”   ???: “Funny. I was going to say the same to you.”   The guards look to each other nervously, when there is a sudden cry of pain, and everyone sees Mirkwoood’s body go limp, dead. From behind the platform a new figure with a bloody sword emerges, a tiefling with grey skin and burn scars on his face and left arm. He motions to the guards to hold their fire. He turns his attention to Gregor.   ???: “Do you know who I am?”   Gregor: “Nope, who are you?”   Morthos: “Typical. Arrogant and stupid. And I have paid the price for that stupidity.” as he motions to his burn scars. “But luckily I found a new group to call home. One that has started to take notice of you and your traveling companions. I was all too eager to take over this post when I heard you were nearby.”   Gregor attempts a dominating presence to instill fear in the guards and Morthos. Only 3 of the guards fail and become frightened.   Morthos: “So that is how it is going to be then? Very well.” and he throws his sword to the ground, manifests a blade of shadow and strikes Gregor.   Now all of the guards have retreated to the pillars whether they were frightened or not. Pockston attempts to throw the battle axe at Morthos shouting “Tomahawk!” but it only goes like 8ft before skittering on the ground another 5ft. J notches an arrow and lets it loose at Morthos. Gregor attempts a shield bash but it bounces off of Morthos’ plate armor.   Morthos mutters an incantation under his breath and his armor glows with a blue light and emanates an aura of cold. Pockston rushes in and slides to grab the battle axe, spins and lets it fly yelling “Spinning Tomahawk!” (Nat 1) Unfortunately, the angle was a little off and it embeds itself in the closest pillar right above one of the guards’ heads. J’s arrows bounce off of Morthos’ armor.   After some combat, Gregor takes his shield as it glows with a bright blue light, raises it over his head and brings it crashing down on Morthos’ head. The armor flashes blue and a streak of cold energy lashes out at Gregor. Morthos crumples to the floor. Gregor gets down and looks Morthos in the eye: “Who are you?”   Morthos spits at him, and with the last bit of dignity and venom he can muster says: “I am not the only one.” and dies. Gregor then takes his armor.   With Morthos and the Governor dead, the guards are now in full panic and are fleeing. A groups of dwarves and humans races past the main doors where 4 break off and enter the room. Ruby, Thrain, Barkley, and Nicholas enter the room and see the carnage. Barkley storms off towards the back exits after the fleeing guards.   Everyone left in the room, collects themselves and leaves the mansion through the charred front courtyard. A large crowd has formed outside the mansion. Several speeches are made, the townspeople are calmed. Nicholas is nominated as the interim leader of the town.   Gregor turns to Pockston, and as a reward for his faithfulness he asks him to lead the chapter of Gregor’s religion here in the town and gives him a prayer book, the pamphlets, and a holy symbol. Pockston eagerly runs off to let his family know.   As J and Gregor head back to the tavern, a masked and cloaked figure materializes out of the shadows. He approaches and asks “You are Gregor are you not?” to which Gregor responds with the same phrase but in reverse. “... yes… yes you’re him. I have been instructed to show you back to your traveling companions.”
