Tahlstatte

The village of Tahlstatte sits on the banks of the River Rahmish about two days travel from Rahmsburg. The small population leads a simple life seeing to their fields and livestock year round. Nearly the entirety of the villagers have ancient familial ties to the land with most being able to document at least ten generations back to having lived in the area. The Ordo Daecious has single priest who lives in the village tending to the spiritual needs of the populace. By most accounts the village tends to be considerably more religious than the surrounding areas, this is due in no small part to the sacred site at the heart of the village. The Tahlstatte Stone recounts the story of The Harvest Hollow Rider who was turned back from the village by the Sun god Zaul, a deity of the Ordo Daecious.   Despite such a fascinating holy site the village population has dwindled to a barely sustainable level over the centuries with most people moving to richer regions. The strict laws in the village also keep most travelers outside of the town at the nearby inns. Dry laws prohibit alcohol in the town and profanity is a punishable offense due to the entire village proper being consecrated as holy ground. Interestingly most of offenses can be paid off with fines that are split between the village and the Order, helping maintain the few public projects the village manages.

Demographics

The majority of people in the village are Humans with small clan of Dwarves numbering thirty individuals with historic ties to the land.

Government

The village is led by Reeve Leofric Killison, a frail old man who has outlived all his child hood friends and become the grandfather to all in the village. His wisdom and firm, but fair, rule of the village keeps the peace in Tahlstatte. Every three months a village gathering is held where any disputes or matters are brought before him and the Freeholders, or land owners, come before him to speak their minds. While he is advised and takes all things into consideration his decision is final unless the Lords are brought into the matter. The Reeve is appointed for life by the Lord who governs the land.

Industry & Trade

The villages economy is exclusively agricultural and animal husbandry. A large inn is located just outside of town where travelers going to Rahmsburg can rest before their last two days of travel. The most basic forms of service can be found in the village such as blacksmiths, horse-dealers, carpenters, and herbalists.

Infrastructure

Well beaten dirt roads lead through the town from the Old Stone Bridge, an ancient stone bridge spanning the River Rahmish of archaic Dwarven architecture patched over time by the villagers.

Assets

Huberd's Ironwares

Huberd Ulrikson is a stout silver haired dwarf who keeps his thick beard rolled tightly under his chin with gold cylinder beads. His hands are stained black from the decades of blacksmithing he has done for the village. His wares primarily include tools and horseshoes but has also been known to forge weapons or armor for travelers. His demeanor seems gruff to most but those who get to know him will soon realize he is simply and tired old man. In the evenings he can be found taking ale and meal at one of the many inns outside of town, his wife since passed on years ago leaving the home wanting.

Tahlstatte Herbal Emporium

Medicine for men and beasts is sought in high demand for the Herbal Emporium in town. It is the only sanctioned place in town to have alcohol for strictly medicinal uses. Mikael Ibiman concocts his elixirs quietly with his wife Sawah, both half-elves from the distant city of Aeydrianos. Their subdued pointed ears and perfectly symmetrical features do little to hide their bastard heritage. The village has taken kindly to them after the last few years, for their assistance in curing a blight a ten years ago saved the populace from famine.

The Standing Stone Inn

Playing on the fame of the famous Tahlstatte Stone, the Standing Stone Inn is host to dozens of travelers each day whether they come for a meal or stay for a night. More a compound than a single inn, the main building holds 80 individual rooms for single occupants or groups of four. A separate building of less luxurious amenities can hold a hundred people among its two story open floor design. The four stables are large enough to hold an entire riding company of soldiers, and has been host to them on more than one occasion. On site is a blacksmith and carpenter for any necessary repairs and a small market space is open to those peddling their goods, for a price to the inns proprietors. Horrock Aethelson and his clan of half-dwarves manage the establishment, well known for their pleasant disposition and gracious feasts they hold regularly. Despite them setting up outside the village to evade the strict religious laws annual donations and constant trade keeps them in the favor of the village Freeholders.
