Pantheon of the Elder Gods of Aeyirah

The Elder Gods of Aeyirah are primordial beings who shaped the world in its earliest days, each embodying fundamental forces of the universe. While some Elder Gods remain active in the affairs of the world, others have withdrawn or been imprisoned following the cosmic conflicts that reshaped Aeyirah. These beings are neither inherently good nor evil, but their immense power and influence have shaped the destinies of gods, mortals, and the world itself. Below is a description of some of the key Elder Gods and their domains.

Aelion, the Shining Lord

Domain: Light, Hope, Justice, Renewal   Aelion is the embodiment of light, hope, and justice, revered as the force that pushes back the darkness and inspires mortals to rise above despair. His light is said to illuminate not only the physical world but also the moral compass of those who seek redemption or strive to right the world’s wrongs. He is a compassionate yet stern deity, willing to forgive transgressions but intolerant of corruption and cruelty.

Voranthrax, the Shadow Titan

Domain: Darkness, Entropy, and Destruction   Once one of the most powerful and ambitious of the Elder Gods, Voranthrax sought to rule over all creation, triggering the First Cataclysm. Now imprisoned in a pocket dimension, Voranthrax’s influence lingers in places of shadow, entropy, and decay. He embodies destruction and the inevitable end of all things. Some believe he whispers to the world’s most destructive beings, trying to manipulate mortals into breaking the seal that binds him. He is feared and revered by cults that believe in the necessity of destruction for new creation.

Seraphys, the Keeper of Stars

Domain: Time, Fate, and the Stars   Seraphys weaves the threads of time and fate, ensuring the balance of the cosmos. She is a distant and enigmatic deity, often depicted as a figure draped in constellations, her eyes aglow with the light of distant stars. It is said that Seraphys knows the destiny of every being in Aeyirah, though she rarely intervenes. Her followers are astrologers, seers, and mystics who seek glimpses of the future in the movements of the stars. During the Second Cataclysm, her intervention was subtle but pivotal, guiding the Celestial Wardens in their quest to heal the world.

Thaldrun, the Forgefather

Domain: Earth, Metal, and Crafting   Thaldrun is the patron of creation through craftsmanship, embodying the raw power of the earth and the art of shaping it. He is the god of artisans, blacksmiths, and miners, worshiped by those who work with stone and metal. Thaldrun is often depicted as a massive, bearded figure wielding a hammer, with molten lava running through his veins. According to legend, it was Thaldrun who raised the mountains and shaped the first weapons and tools of mortals. His temples are often found in dwarven cities, deep within the mountains.

Nythea, the Lady of Tides

Domain: Water, Oceans, and Life   Nythea governs the vast oceans and the cycles of life that emerge from them. She is revered by sailors, fishermen, and those who dwell by the sea, but her influence also extends to rivers and lakes. Nythea is known as a compassionate but firm goddess, one who provides for her followers but demands respect for the natural world. She is depicted as a serene figure with flowing hair like waves, often accompanied by sea creatures. Her power was crucial in stabilizing Aeyirah after the Second Cataclysm, when the oceans raged out of control.

Gorathor, the Beastlord

Domain: Beasts, Wild Nature, and Primal Strength   Gorathor represents the untamed wilderness, the spirit of animals, and the raw power of nature. He is worshiped by druids, hunters, and those who live in harmony with the wild. Gorathor is depicted as a towering figure with the head of a stag, the body of a man, and the claws of a beast. He embodies the balance between predator and prey, as well as the untamable forces of nature. Followers of Gorathor believe that civilization must not forget the wild places, as they hold the true essence of life.

Liriana, the Dreamweaver

Domain: Magic, Dreams, and the Subconscious   Liriana is the goddess of dreams and magic, ruling over the mysteries of the mind and the arcane forces that flow through Aeyirah. She is often depicted as an ethereal figure with a veil of shimmering mist, her eyes ever-closed as she weaves the fabric of reality from the dreams of mortals. Liriana’s influence extends to both the waking world and the dream realm, where she guides those who seek arcane knowledge or inner truth. Her followers include wizards, sorcerers, and mystics who tap into the dreamscape for their powers.

Rethrak, the Warden of Death

Domain: Death, Souls, and the Afterlife   Rethrak is the god who governs the passage of souls from the mortal world to the afterlife. Not a figure of malevolence, he is instead a solemn guardian who ensures that the balance between life and death is maintained. He is depicted as a hooded figure carrying a lantern, guiding the souls of the dead across the River of Shadows. Rethrak’s followers, often clerics or monks, believe in preparing themselves and others for the inevitable journey to the afterlife, respecting the cycles of life and death. He was instrumental in keeping the souls of the dead from being torn apart during the chaotic aftermath of the Second Cataclysm.

Ithirael, the Dawnmother

Domain: Growth, Change, Seasons, and Harvest   Ithirael represents the cycles of nature, the ebb and flow of life, and the promise of renewal through change. She is the goddess of seasons, fertility, and the natural transitions that sustain the world.  Ithirael is the nurturing force behind life’s continuous evolution, from the bloom of spring to the quiet decay of autumn.   These Elder Gods represent the foundational forces that shaped Aeyirah and continue to influence its fate. Though some remain distant or dormant, their followers still revere them, and their power lingers in the world, waiting for the right moment to shape it once more.
