His striking plume of fiery red hair, shaved at the sides, crests his head like a hawk’s feather, while his waxed and curled moustache gives him a gentlemanly flair. Finnian’s muscular build and calloused fists evoke the image of a Victorian-era prizefighter. His traditional fighting attire consists of a sleeveless tunic and wrapped leather handguards, with a crimson sash symbolizing his monastic order.
Personality:
Finnian exudes confidence and charm, blending the poise of a nobleman with the grit of a seasoned brawler. His jovial demeanor masks a deep sense of discipline and duty. Despite his pride in his heritage, he is surprisingly humble, often emphasizing that strength lies not in the fists but in the spirit.
Backstory:
Finnian was born into the Hart Clan of Calryne, known for their fiery tempers and indomitable will. His father, Lachlan Hart, was the chieftain and a celebrated pugilist, renowned for competing in underground "fist games" that blended martial skill with brutal showmanship. Finnian inherited his father’s talent, and by the age of sixteen, he was dominating local bouts under the moniker Red Hawk.
However, Finnian’s life took a sharp turn during a clan feud. His family’s estate was raided by rival clans allied with mercenaries, and his father was mortally wounded. Finnian fought valiantly to defend his home but was struck down and left for dead. He awoke in the Monastery of the Crimson Hand, an ancient order dedicated to mastering both body and mind.
The monks of the Crimson Hand practiced a martial art blending the savagery of highland combat with the grace of meditative discipline. They saw potential in Finnian’s raw strength and burning spirit. Over the years, he trained in their sacred techniques, learning to channel his fury into precision strikes and to balance the chaos of battle with inner peace. He adopted the monastery’s philosophy that violence is a tool to protect, not to dominate.
Current Role:
Finnian now travels Aeyirah as a wandering champion, testing his skills in bouts of honor while seeking to resolve conflicts without bloodshed when possible. Despite his monastic roots, he retains the flair of a showman, participating in public exhibitions of his unique blend of martial arts. He is particularly drawn to regions where the weak are oppressed, often challenging tyrants to single combat in a public arena.
While Finnian’s heart is noble, his pride occasionally leads him into trouble, especially when others challenge his skills or insult his heritage. Though he keeps his monk’s discipline, his sharp wit and fighting prowess ensure he never backs down from a challenge.
Fighting Style:
Finnian’s combat style, The Hawk’s Talon, incorporates highland pugilism—brutal punches, headbutts, and throws—with the precision of monastic martial arts. He combines showy spins and feints with devastatingly efficient strikes, often leaping into battle with his signature Talon Strike, a flying uppercut delivered with staggering force.
