Dream: The Revelation of Sombrivax
This dream begins in profound stillness. You stand in an endless expanse of silvery mist, the air cool and humming faintly with a charge of energy. Beneath your feet, the mist flows like liquid glass, reflecting your fragmented image in rippling waves. The silence is heavy, yet it feels alive, expectant, as though the space itself is holding its breath.
Ahead of you, the mist stirs. A vast shadow rises, coiled and immense, at first indistinct but resolving as you draw closer. Its form is unmistakably draconic, serpentine and vast, its translucent body shimmering with faint starlight. Its wings, ghostly and smoke-like, stretch outward before curling back, blending with the mist as though they were part of the dream itself.
Then, its eyes open. Twin orbs of pale, glowing light pierce the mist, locking onto you with a weight that stops you in your tracks. When the dragon speaks, its voice does not reach your ears—it resonates within your mind, deep and resonant, a presence so vast it feels as though it has always been there, waiting for you to notice.
“You have carried me for so long,” the dragon says. “And now, you stand ready to know what you are... and what I am.”
It shifts, its coiling form moving like smoke caught in a gentle breeze. Though immense, its presence is not overwhelming—it is calm, measured, and deeply ancient.
“I am Sombrivax,” the dragon declares, its name rolling through your mind with the gravity of thunder on the horizon. “One of the last of the Nihilwyrms. We were dragons born of the Dreamscape, protectors of the realms of dreams and souls, guardians of the unseen boundaries that shaped existence. Once, I roamed freely across the vast expanse of the Dreamscape, a realm of infinite wonder. But that world is no more.”
The dragon’s head lowers, its glowing eyes locking onto yours. “When the Dreamscape fractured, when the balance was torn apart, I endured. Many of my kind fell—some to annihilation, others to corruption. But I found refuge… not in a world, but in the minds of mortals.”
The mist around you begins to shift, revealing fleeting images in its swirling currents. You see flashes of others—faces you do not recognize, people who are not you. A warrior stands on a battlefield, their blade glowing with psychic fire. A child reaches toward a sky filled with stars. A scholar studies an ancient tome, their eyes alight with a knowledge too vast to comprehend. These lives, these dreams, flicker through your mind like distant echoes.
Sombrivax speaks again, his tone quieter, tinged with ancient sorrow. “I have walked with many before you. Mortals whose minds offered me sanctuary, whose dreams sustained me when I had no realm left to guard. Some carried my strength with honor. Others… faltered beneath the weight of our bond. Each life was a chapter in my existence, a thread woven into my being.”
The images fade, and for a moment, the mist is still. Then, your own face appears, reflected in the flowing mist below. It is younger, the face of a child, wide-eyed and dreaming. Sombrivax’s voice grows softer, almost gentle.
“You were only a child when I found you. Your dreams were vast, your mind unbroken, resilient enough to shelter me. You did not know me then, but I was there, in the shadows of your thoughts, watching, waiting for the moment when you would be ready to hear my voice.”
The dragon’s form grows brighter, its translucent body shimmering with celestial light. “I have guarded you as I have guarded others. I have lent you my strength in moments of weakness, shielded your mind from the chaos that would seek to consume it. But now, the time has come for us to walk this path together, as one.”
Sombrivax’s glowing eyes burn brighter as he leans closer, filling your vision entirely. “Our bond is one of necessity, but it is also one of choice. I will protect you as long as you carry me, but the road ahead is not without cost. Will you accept the truth of what I am? Of what we are?”
The mist around you begins to swirl violently, the dream dissolving into flashes of light and shadow. Sombrivax’s voice grows distant, echoing as the vision fades.
“This is only the beginning…”
You awaken abruptly, the sensation of falling fading as you open your eyes. The room around you is still and quiet, yet you feel as though something vast and ancient lingers just beyond the edge of your consciousness.
Sombrivax’s presence is still there, unmistakable, settled like a shadow in the corners of your mind. For a moment, you hear his voice again, distant and faint, like a whisper carried on the wind.
“I am here. I will remain.”
And his voice fades, receding into the depths of your thoughts.
