Laduguer, the Gray Taskmaster (Lad-oo-gair)

The minor deity of dwarves, patron god of the Duergar, the god of expansion, sacred traditions, the magic of psionics, might, resolve and avarice.   Ever since he was cast out from the rest of the Morandinsamman, Laduguer has harboured a bitter resentment, viewing the rest of the pantheon as layabouts more concerned with outdated tradition than with progress.

Church of Laduguer

Worshippers

The duergar do not differentiate between secular and religious authority, so he is worshipped by every Duergar.

Orders

Temples & Shrines

Laduguer's clergy serves as the nominal rulers of society. They are known as the thuldor ("those who endure") and they keep the race united and powerful against the other races of the Underdark. His priests are expected to serve in the military.   Many temples include large stables used to care for and breed steeders: large, monstrous riding spiders.

Realm

Laduguer reigns over the Duergar from his palace of Hammergrim on the plane of Acheron.

Divine Domains

Arcana - Forge - Knowledge

Holy Books & Codes

Laduguer's clergy keeps no books or texts and instead prefers to inscribe his knowledge into temple walls or products of smithcraft.

Divine Symbol

Broken Arrow.

Tenets of Faith

His doctrine teaches obedience to one's leader, empowerment through the exploitation of slaves, enrichment through the creation of magical weapons and protection through an unforgiving military program. He is xenophobic, urging his followers to avoid contact with other races save for limited trade and slave raids.

Dogma

The children of Laduguer have rejected the feckless and feeble gods of their forefathers and withdrawn from their lazy once-kin so as not to be tainted by their weaknesses. Strict obedience to superiors, dedication to one's craft, and endless toil are necessary to achieve wealth, security, and power. Nothing is ever easy, nor should it be. Suffer pain stoically and remain aloof, for to show or even feel emotion is to demonstrate weakness. Those who are weak are undeserving and will suffer an appropriate fate. Adversity is Laduguer's forge, and the harsh trails through which the duergar must pass are his hammer blows--endure all and become stronger than adamantine.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

Laduguer wants to take revenge upon his former brothers and sisters of the Morandinsamman and lead his people, the Duergar to unreachable heights.

Personal History

Laduguer has been exiled from the Morndinsamman. The gold and shield dwarves claim he committed unspeakable crimes and was only saved from Ergo's wrath by Laduguer. The grey dwarves, however, say he was an advocate of righteous, innovative philosophy that offended Morandin so much that he cast him out.
