Elemental Chaos

The Elemental Chaos was an Inner Plane located at the far reaches of the Elemental Planes, where the elements dissolved intoa single mix of colliding energies. It was a fundamental plane within which were contained all of the former elemental planes and energy planes.   A tempestuous sea of ever-changing terrain and clashing elements, with stability only enforced in isolated locations, the Elemental Chaos was ruled over, at least in name if not fact, by the Primordials and was equal and opposite of its divine counterpart, the Astral Sea, as the Primordials were the opposites of the Gods as demons were to devils.   In spite of its chaotic and dangerous landscape, most parts of the Chaos were relatively easy to travel through, or at least as much as most other planes.   HISTORY   The Elemental Chaos has existed as long as the Astral Sea, but is largely unknown to nearly all inhabitants of Aetheus. During the Divine War, the Primordials, with a few exceptions, who inhabited the Chaos lost their influence over Aetheus and the surrounding space and were driven from the local multiverse into a separate and parallel existence, where Aeth and Theus once dwelt. Only with the Great Collision and the subsequent swapping between Aeth and Theus had the Elemental Chaos again become part of the local cosmology, reabsorbing the Elemental planes.

Elemental Realms

Though most of the Elemental Chaos was an ever-changing landscape defined by chaos and unpredictability, there were planes within the Chaos that had a more defined set of stability. These sub-planes, called 'Realms', were formed through the will and power of mighty elemental beings, often primordials but including other denizens of the Chaos as well. Within these realms a sort of order was maintained, often reflecting the nature of its creator and ruler. This was not always entirely true and the Abyss, for instance, was as chaotic and dangerous, if not thoroughly more so, than the rest of the Chaos.   Like dominions, realms maintained laws and natures separate from the rest of the Chaos, though they dwelt within it, and often had strong connections with other planes outside of the Chaos.
  • Torentia - The plane of competing mountainous landmasses and flooded cerulean-green oceans. Like its patron, O'decodia, the lands shifted and toiled like that of the Assembled Catastrophe.
  • Clamor - The plane of toiling gaseous nebulae taking form in proto-matter, sometimes in solid floating masses frozen and quelled with competing elemental power, caustic substances. Home of Omn'zion, the Locus of Consuming.
  • Gullet - A realm of ever-changing flesh, elemental energy and stone, animating to life, burning, freezing, crashing and twisting. Creatures ate and consumed all that walked and were given life in this region, each other and being consumed by the world itself. A reflection of Ulamog the Ceaseless Hunger itself.
  • Endomeridar - A realm of tempestuous boiling oceans contesting with great cataclysmic whirlpools that dragged all within to the other side of the world, flipping them and throwing them out at great speeds. No one can tell where is up or where is down. The domain of Ioa'ue the Endless Depth.
  • Oraelia - A realm split in half, one dark, one light, competing with several living winds across the region that sought dominance - the lower layers of the realm consumed in thick poisonous mists, and the higher regions purvaded with great solid clouds that rained ice and roared with thunder. The domain of Ora'Aro the Twin Sky.
  • Shudderth - A concrete realm with broken landmasses, formed with several mountainous spines that seemingly hobble and climb over one another, splitting like flesh and releasing great trembling quakes that cause destruction and devastation over the world. The great chasms that divide these planes drop deep into the crevice of the world, where more cavernous landmasses compete, buckle, break and split in a world-wide pile on and titanic wrestling match of earth and stone. All the land fights in order to not fall in on itself. The domain of Ergrogod the Gripping Quake.
  • Kairne - This apocalyptic realm is ruled over by the titan Kharnako the Holocaust, dominated by a volcanic landscape choked with burning skies of smoke, ash and gouts of flame - arid continents churning into superheated rock, trembling and melting into lava and magma - the few cold places of the world are swiftly hunted down and reside as explosive congregations for the Titan to unleash pyroclastic storms and his unending fury.
  • Withay - The decaying world of Bialett the Undying Rot, a bleach white landscape of sinking quagmires of polluted tar-like waters, hills that peel like burnt flayed skin that bleed green smoke and bursts of flame, oceans broken and choked by mud and oozing pustules. A grim place that hangs with a sky of perpetual acid rains.
  • Chiljiborr - A frozen world of constant glacial mountains, frozen oceans and white blistering snowstorms, with freezing winds carrying dagger-like icicles across the world in rapid frost-bitten storms. The realm of Draunn the Wandering Frost.
  • Typhon - A storm realm, filled with broken flying mountains that crack and break against one another in great collisions, carried and thrown far through constant typhoons and super-storms. Thunder and lightning are the only sources of light and sound, if the wind does not blind or deafen you. Here, Moroborom the Storm Serpent makes its home.
  • Metallica - A windless realm of metal, electric discharges and ear-bleeding screeches of metal grinding as the land moves, grows and shrieks at itself. The weight of the world itself breaks in on itself, weighing all those down upon it until they are chained and crushed in clamouring quakes and its molten-metal avalanches. Once home to the great Titan Telos the Inevitable.
