Aetherite
Is it not a strange fate that we should suffer so much fear and doubt for so small a thing?
When aetheric energy becomes saturated by a particular element sometimes it can crystalize into a physical form and this is what as known as aetherite. Aetherite always has an elemental aspect to it and is never encountered untyped in the wild though it is speculated a "white" or blank aetherite could be synthesized in the lab. The four main elements earth, air, water, and fire are the most common and stable of all the types. Para-elemental atherite can be found in the wild though it is very rare and can be unstable. These para-elements are char, ice, slime, magma, entropy, and negentropy, the last two being elements that don't have a respective plane of existence but its effects can be felt in all. Lastly there is theorized quasi-elemental aetherite that could be made in the lab but so far all attempts to make it in the lab has been a failure and none have been discovered in the wild yet.
Utility
Aetherite can be used to provide elemental energy to a device or spell much like a battery supplies power. It can also be depleted fully as well with extensive use. You can pull elemental aether energy in batches or in a constant stream as long as the aetherite has enough energy. In the lab it has been shown you can push aether back into aetherite depending on the quality of the sample used.
Manufacturing
Work has been done in the lab to attempt to create synthetic version of aetherite but so far even with basic elements it has failed. The only way to acquire aetherite is to mine it from the sources it is found around portals.
Social Impact
The social impact of aetherite has provided some modern comforts sooner than we encountered it in our history. Things like refrigeration, stable heating, steam propulsion and lightning generation are all possible now. Devices that utilize aetherite is in high demand and is shaping the way people live.
Access & Availability
Anyone that can get their hands on aetherite can use it either as a general spell focus or as a font of aether energy of the aspect type the aetherite is.
Complexity
On the surface the material is simple crystalized aetheric energy in physical form. Devices that use that energy can range from a simple pass of the energy or complex transformations of the energy to other forms of energy or motion.
Discovery
Aetherite was discovered by the Raderan Empire Prism Spire College when doing research into extraplanar travel. It was found in and around portal areas as a crystallization of aetheric energy in physical form.
