The Linewalkers

"We are the last line of defense. When we fall, the world follows."

The Linewalkers are a military order sworn to guard The Last Line, a colossal barrier at the southern edge of Aetheris that seals the known world from the Seven Hells beyond. The order was formed to prevent the rise of infernal forces and demonic incursion, standing eternal watch over the gates of hell.

The Linewalkers are composed primarily of draftees, as well as rejects from The Academy, who are given one choice: death, or service upon the wall. Though they are shunned by the world, their grim duty is considered essential to its survival.

The Draft:
Every few years, entire kingdoms answer the call.

Some treat the draft as a punishment, sending criminals, deserters, or those they want gone. Others see it as a duty, choosing trained soldiers or drawing names by tradition. Whether sent in chains or with honor, all walk the same road. Once chosen, they give up their names and pasts. From that point on, they are called Linewalkers, the ones who stand at The Last Line, where the known world ends.
