The Rise
A short, curving mountain range which was spat into the centre of the grasslands by the Cataclysm. Initially severing pathways and roads, enough time has passed for new routes to be created and marked up onto the maps that still exist. As the sun rises and sets, the dim outlines of torn and twisted buildings can be seen scattered across either side of the mountains.
Geography
The east of the Rise is scrubland, the road between Farmloss and Templewood passing close by its base, the old road crumbling apart at the base of the mountain face and fading away into the badlands and desert of the devastated eastern region.
The west is dominated by a dense collection of ripping hills, a small outcropping of the Oldbark Forest adjacent to the hills, while further on the city of Buches is located on the coast.
Between these locations, the terrain is similar to the north, grasslands and rough roads crossing the terrain. Meanwhile, at the southern end, the mountains encroach upon the Oldbark Forest, dangerously close to the settlement of Farmloss.
Fauna & Flora
The area around the Rise is filled with various plant and animal life, though the mountain range is generally barren of life. Upthrown soil around its base is often rife with plants, though the stone itself is clear of any plants.
Natural Resources
The mountains are currently untouched. Despite the time since the Cataclysm, these mountains are untouched by any miners or stonemasons; materials are gathered from the Thawcaps which provide more than enough raw materials for the remaining settlements.
That does not stop travellers who pass by, and who have basic tools for the work, from attempting to extract surface ores or begin test mines for accessible materials; but without a nearby settlement that can support them in the early stages or more advances tools for sorting the materials, they have failed to succeed so far.
History
The Rise was born through the Cataclysm, cutting through the roads and settlements in the heart of the grasslands. The mountains were stable, unlike The Flows and as such the creation of new roads around the Rise were able to be created.
The Rise was seen as a benefit, a grace from the gods. Despite the town that was destroyed when the mountains speared up from beneath, the Rise proved an invaluable shield which protected Buches and much of the land which was otherwise exposed to the effects of the Cataclysm.
