Templewood

A small grove of trees, untouched by civilisation. The Templewood gain their name due to being considered territory of the Chilltide Temple. Despite the distance of a few hours between them, it was officially given to the Temple to provide a source of lumber, game and other supplies to those who protected the Temple.

Geography

The forest is rich with various trees, shrubs, and other plants though not overgrown. The ground is clear enough for easy travel, and though no specific path was ever cleared a series of natural game trails came together to create a meandering passage. Though the eastern aspect is moderately hilly, the majority of the forest spreads across reasonably level ground interspersed with drops, ridges and dried-out riverbeds.

Fauna & Flora

Rich with deciduous trees, the forest turns shades of amber and gold during the autumn before dying back in the winter. The ground is busy with shrubs and sprawling plants, though rarely dense enough to truly restrict the movement of those within.   Animal life is rich here as well and despite the presence of a number of predatory species that can pose a harm to travellers, defence of the self is tolerated. If the aggressive animal is slain, then even if due to a defensive action the traveller who dealt the killing blow will be dealt with.

Natural Resources

Lumber, fruits, nuts and animal products are all available in plentiful quantity for those who can indeed gather them without breaking an ancient law that still holds true. The area is protected against all mining attempts, nor can mining be launched from a base within the forest. Exposed minerals in the nearby mountains cannot be accessed without digging clear through the mountains from outside the forest.

History

The Templewoods were quickly regarded as a protected area of land, only able to be travelled through by those who came to it. The ability to hunt, cut wood and more can only be performed by those who serve their holy orders in protecting the Chilltide Temple. This has always been obeyed and those few who have broken this law in the past have been severely dealt with.   The Cataclysm caused the Rise, The to the surface, cutting off the western side of the forest and isolating it as a natural barrier to casual travel. The forest was surprisingly undamaged through the upheaval and has recovered since to its previous condition.
